Shortly after blasting Evelyn, her body plopped to the ground, and more items scattered across the ground.
It was just a pity though that there weren't many decent items dropped this time. Nevertheless, Xu Feng wasn't polite and still yoinked them all to his inventory.
He then proceeded to lay another formation and trap—just in case of the possibility that she might try to revive herself again.
'With the cooldown timer, this should be enough.' Xu Feng clasped his hands and scanned around the perimeter. Once he confirmed no one else was nearby, he turned around and proceeded to enter the city's gate.
Nevertheless, to be cautious, Xu Feng summoned the Abyssal Phantom and had it guard around the perimeter. This Abyssal Phantom was a different variant. It would be difficult for others to even think this phantom was the same one his Lin Feng alias used.
After all, summoned creatures through the use of items and some other skill was common knowledge. Of course, it was still inferior to the ones that the Summoner class used, but it was decent enough as a helper.
Sometime later, Xu Feng roamed around the streets. The streets were completely desolate.
With the imminent crisis of the siege, the regular NPCs had all either fled or remained hidden in their house. As for the combatant NPCs, they were also on the battlefield, except they operate differently than players.
They didn't follow the players nor would they order the players around. It was merely an unspoken rule between them to not interfere with each other.
The only exception was those who accepted the Adventure Association commissions.
However, choosing that would mean being restricted in a specific area and being barred from stepping over a certain boundary, Once overstepped the certain boundary, their mission would end up being a failure for neglecting their post.
This was why most guilds chose to enter the alliance rather than accept the commissions from the Adventure Association.
They preferred to move around without any restrictions. In the alliance, they would probably just be scolded or have some of their rewards deducted for mispositioning.
However, if they made the mistake while under the Adventure Association, then it was over for them. All their efforts and time would go down the drain.
Therefore, only a very few minorities of the players who refused to be associated with the guilds chose to join the Adventure Association.
Hence, for Dawnshire City to look no different than a ghost city wasn't surprising. At the very least, Xu Feng could save his grenades and energy to create a river of blood in the path.
'Seems like that Evelyn was their only available person to stop the intruder.' Xu Feng concluded. Despite walking for a while and purposely revealing some of the openings and flaws, there were no enemies attacking him.
To further prove his theory, he increased his perception and even made some ridiculous actions in an attempt to catch them off-guard.
Although mostly positive that there were no enemies lurking, Xu Feng still decided to set up precautions and ensure that the slim possibility of enemies was dealt with. He had already paid a heavy price for not being overly prepared and chose to be stingy.
There was no way he would let himself make the same mistake again.
Sometime later, Xu Feng arrived at the City Hall—the place that contained the city's core.
"No wonder I heard nothing." Xu Feng smirked as he approached the City Hall, only to notice a transparent-like barrier.
As he extended his hand and touched the barrier, his face frowned. 'Whoever the enemy was, they sure invested a lot of money.'
The exterior barrier cost them 20,000 gold coins, but this current barrier was even more powerful than the exterior. Of course, that didn't mean the barrier in front of him cost more.
It was just the fact that the area of the region covered in this one was different from the exterior barrier.
Having inspected the barrier and found the weak points, Xu Feng wasted no time and used multiple offensive Ragged Scrolls, followed by his ultimate skill.
The ultimate cooldown was long, but he'd rather use it immediately than stall for any longer.
As soon as his ultimate skill, combined with the Ragged Scroll power struck the barrier, a deafening crack echoed through the air. Given that the power output was many times bigger than his previous attempt, there were jagged fissures spreading rapidly across the barrier's surface.
The energy in the barrier fluctuated violently, and its glowing lights began to dim.
With each fracture continuously expanding outward like shattered glass, the barrier crumbled and collapsed in a burst of scattered energy. They dispersed into countless fading lights, and Xu Feng's expression turned colder.
Now that the barrier was shattered, the sound that was emitting from the City Hall became crystal clear for him to hear.
And when he heard the conversation, followed by the taunting words of the enemies.
Xu Feng's eyes darkened, revealing a chilling sense of bloodlust.
"Haha, your Dawnshire City is doomed and so are those arrogant bastards from the Vanguard Guild." A loud and jeering voice echoed through the building.
"Guild Leader Jackson. You seriously think we won't retaliate against you?" Gentle Wind shouted and questioned solemnly.
"Even if we fail to defend and lose the city. Our four major guilds would do everything in our power to destroy Vegan Life."
"Destroy my Vegan Life? Hah, has your brain rotten as well, Guild Leader Gentle Wind?" Jackson snickered coldly and continued, "Don't you realize who the people backing me up are? I'm afraid the four major guilds here are nothing but ants—no, worse than ants in their eyes."
"Enough blabbering and continue to bombard them. The Vanguard Guild Commander's timer to revive is coming soon. We'll need to destroy the city core and exit."
"Yes, Honorable CarnageBound." Jackson nodded and adhered to his command.
Meanwhile, Gentle Wind's brows furrowed as she realized her stalling tactic had failed.
'Damn it, with the barrier intact, we can't even send messages for reinforcement.' She cursed silently.
