Shen Jingqi couldn’t help but laugh!
"Ha, I knew someone was the silent and pensive type!"
Shen Jingqi hooked the corner of his lips and quickly opened WeChat, selected a photo, and hit send.
Sheng Ting looked at the photo sent over and paused before saying, "You said last time that she had a boyfriend?"
"More accurately, an ex-boyfriend," replied Shen Jingqi.
Then, leaning closer with a mischievous smile, he said, "You wouldn’t really have taken a fancy to her, would you? If so, you’ll have to be really attentive, you know. I heard that she and her ex were childhood sweethearts and she even transferred to our school just for him. However, they fell out over some issue a while back. But you can tell that guy definitely hasn’t given up yet."
"If I were you, I’d take advantage of the time they’re broken up to seize the opportunity and slide in while she’s vulnerable," he said, raising his eyebrows suggestively.
"That’s enough; you talk too much," Sheng Ting remarked.
Clearly not in the mood for a heart-to-heart.
"Tsk, I’m just trying to give you a friendly heads-up!" He didn’t appreciate being used and discarded like that.
Sheng Ting said, "Stop blabbering and come inside with me, we haven’t finished discussing the last question."
"Are you serious? Please have mercy!!!" Shen Jingqi cried out in despair, "Brother Ting, let’s make a deal. I’ll help you chase the girl, and you help me bluff my mom. It’s not like I’ll starve anyway with Old Shen and Ms. Lu’s legacy. Why bother working so hard when I could be winning easily?"
Why stress when he clearly wasn’t interested in overachieving?
Sheng Ting, expressionless, refused, "No, I promised Sister Lu He."
"All you promised was to tutor me; ultimately, you don’t get the final say in how well I do, right? You can just claim you did your best, that I’m a hopeless case, and my mom can’t blame you." Shen Jingqi had the backup plan all figured out.
"I don’t like to lie!" said Sheng Ting.
"I don’t believe for a second that you’ve never lied in your whole life," Shen Jingqi challenged. "It’s not possible; there’s no one who doesn’t lie."
Sheng Ting insisted, "I haven’t!"
Shen Jingqi was speechless...
"Fine, you don’t have to lie, but you can go easy on me, right?" Shen Jingqi bargained, "We don’t need to take it so seriously, just do enough to get by. It’s not like there will be much difference whether I study or not. You don’t really think that a few extra lessons with you will get me into the top few hundred of our grade, do you? That’s just impossible; it would be a waste of time anyway."
Sheng Ting asserted, "With me involved, nothing is impossible."
Was he always so confident in everything?
Shen Jingqi said, "I know you’re impressive, but not everyone’s brain is the same, and I’m just not cut out for studying. You turning me from a slacker into a top student, that’s definitely impossible."
Sheng Ting clarified, "I’m not trying to make you a top student; your mom said as long as you get into a university, it’s fine."
Shen Jingqi fell silent and then took a deep breath, looking at him, "You better think this through, without my help, I reckon your chances of winning her over are less than thirty percent."
He’d be squandering a great resource if he didn’t use Shen Jingqi’s assistance.
He would surely regret it.
"That’s not something you need to worry about!" said Sheng Ting, unmoved and without as much as fluttering an eyelid.
Shen Jingqi was out of moves, "Fine, you’re the boss, you win!" He was certain there wasn’t anything this guy could handle.
