Chapter 41 - Beyond the Veil
Jin-Ho Kang stood at the precipice of existence, where reality frayed and the unknown stretched beyond even his comprehension. The abyss had been his dominion, his throne, his very essence. And yet, this force—this presence—stood untouched by its reach.
The wraith generals hesitated. Even Ashborn, the greatest of his warriors, cast a wary glance at the swirling formless energy that pulsed ahead of them. It was not hostile, yet its very nature defied everything they had ever known.
Jin-Ho stepped forward. The abyss bent with his movement, but this time, something was different. Instead of swallowing everything before him, it hesitated, as if acknowledging a force beyond its own.
A whisper slithered through the void, neither a voice nor a thought, yet it resonated through him.
You seek to claim what cannot be owned.
Jin-Ho's golden eyes flared. "There is nothing I cannot claim."
The presence pulsed, a ripple through the fabric of reality itself. Then step forward, Shadow Monarch. See what lies beyond power.
Without hesitation, Jin-Ho did.
The abyss peeled away, revealing something he had never seen before—not darkness, not light, but something in between. A realm untouched by creation or destruction, existing outside the cycle of gods and Monarchs. It was not a battlefield, not a throne to be conquered, but something... different.
He felt it then—a shift within himself. Power unlike any he had ever wielded surged through him, but it was not his to command. It was knowledge, awareness, the raw essence of existence itself pouring into his being.
For the first time, Jin-Ho Kang felt something close to awe.
Ashborn and the others remained behind, unable to step where he had. Their forms flickered, caught between the abyss and this new realm, unable to follow.
The presence spoke once more.
You have torn the veil, Monarch of Shadows. Now, choose. Remain as you are, or step beyond all that you have ever known.
Jin-Ho exhaled slowly. He had ascended beyond gods, beyond fate itself. And yet, the path before him was something else entirely.
His smirk returned. "What kind of king would I be if I turned back now?"
With that, he stepped fully into the unknown.
And the veil closed behind him.
