Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Is Academic Research So Early?
“Good morning.” Lu Yi greeted her as soon as he saw her.
Shen Heyu smiled at him, “Academic research so early?”
Lu Yi nodded, and the two naturally walked side by side to the elevator as he spoke, “There’s a medical university in Yun City where students start quite early, so I can’t slack off.”
Shen Heyu smiled politely without saying a word.
This had always been her style of conducting herself, smiling when she didn’t know what to talk about.
The two separated downstairs at the hotel, and as they went their separate ways, Lu Yi said, “Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
Shen Heyu nodded, “Either is fine.”
“I’ll come to the hotel to pick you up then.”
Lu Yi turned and left.
Shen Heyu also went to the appointment she had arranged, but this time her assistant Yun Duo did not accompany her. As she passed by the roadside on time, she saw a luxury car parked there.
It looked somewhat familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she had seen it.
She just glanced at it and left.
The public relations problem was a bit tricky, and Shen Heyu hit a wall as soon as she met with them; the other party didn’t even come to the appointment.
She waited a long time and saw no one, so in the end, she chose to go back.
She stayed in the hotel for an afternoon, reorganizing the public relations event. Later that evening, someone knocked on her room door.
She went to open it and saw Lu Yi, dressed spick-and-span, standing at the door, “Shall we go out for dinner?”
It was agreed upon in the morning, Shen Heyu did not refuse and followed Lu Yi out.
Lu Yi booked a nearby Western restaurant.
As they were leaving, Shen Heyu saw that black luxury car again. This time, she finally recalled where she had seen it.
That was clearly Pei Yansi’s car!
But he rarely drove it, so she only saw it but didn’t remember the license plate.
After recognizing it, her footsteps halted and she didn’t move forward.
Lu Yi looked down at her, puzzled, “What’s wrong?”
Shen Heyu looked towards the car.
Inside the car, Pei Yansi was sitting in the back seat, while his assistant was in the driver’s seat. He had arrived in Yun City since last night but didn’t know which room she was staying in, so he just waited downstairs at the hotel.
Thinking that she would eventually come out.
Who would have thought that when the woman passed by in the morning and saw the car, she just walked away not recognizing it. Now, it seemed as though she had recognized it.
At this moment, the assistant said, “President Pei, the madam has looked over here. It looks like she has recognized you.”
Pei Yansi said nothing.
The assistant continued, “Is President Pei also quite fond of the madam? Otherwise, why as soon as you heard…”
He didn’t finish his sentence when he saw his boss’s icy gaze in the rearview mirror. He paused, immediately shut his mouth, and dared not say anything more.
The car’s atmosphere fell silent for a few seconds, and Pei Yansi never spoke. Looking through the car window at Shen Heyu outside.
Since the outside couldn’t see inside his car, Shen Heyu didn’t know he was watching her. She stayed put for a few seconds, and seeing no one coming out, she subconsciously assumed Pei Yansi wasn’t there.
She then turned around and re-entered the restaurant with Lu Yi.
She had only taken a few steps when suddenly, a man’s cold voice came from behind, “Shen Heyu!”
Both Shen Heyu and Lu Yi stopped in their tracks and turned to look, seeing Pei Yansi stepping out of the car.
He wore a formal suit, his hair slightly disheveled, and the light in his phoenix-shaped eyes cold as he looked at Lu Yi, his hostility undisguised.
Taking two steps at a time, he reached Shen Heyu’s side and naturally took her hand, as if they were a couple with an exceedingly good relationship, newlyweds even.
Yet Shen Heyu could feel the iciness emanating from his palm.
And the grip on her hand was not light; she could sense he was not pleased.
His gaze heavy, he looked at Lu Yi and said with an ambiguous smile, “Doctor Lu seems to have a lot of free time, even having the time to dine with my wife.”
Lu Yi smiled, unaffected by his provocation. After all, they really were husband and wife.
He said, “It’s just a coincidence that we both work in Yun City and happened to have dinner together.”
“Just so happens, I do as well, let’s eat together.”
Pei Yansi said this as he led Shen Heyu into the Western restaurant.
There were no private rooms inside, and the three were seated in the main hall.
Pei Yansi sat next to Shen Heyu and remained silent after ordering their meal. Some time passed, and the waiter served dinner for all three.
Shen Heyu had ordered a steak.
Just as she was about to cut into it, Lu Yi took her plate from her side and said, “Let me help you.”
He skillfully wielded a knife and fork, cutting the steak for her and then pushing the plate back in front of her.
The entire process was gentle and natural, and to the unaware, it would seem he was Shen Heyu’s husband.
Shen Heyu merely smiled faintly and thanked him.
Pei Yansi, who had been watching from the side, found her smile particularly grating.
But he said nothing, for their marriage was in name only, and showing too much concern at this juncture would be an affront to his pride.
Shen Heyu did not glance at him the entire meal, quietly focusing on her own dinner. Pei Yansi hardly ate, occasionally casting glances at her and Lu Yi.
For some reason, the two seemed to get along surprisingly well, as if they were the real married couple.
After dinner, the three left the restaurant together.
As they passed a supermarket, Lu Yi seemed to remember something and offered, “Shall I take you to get some snacks?”
It was obvious he was addressing Shen Heyu.
She patted her belly and said, “Didn’t we just eat?”
“Let’s get some snacks. I remember back in college, you and Yun Lan both loved eating them. She still eats them now, so you probably do too, right?”
A bit embarrassed, Shen Heyu nodded. After all, there weren’t many people her age who were still fond of snacks.
Lu Yi led her into the supermarket.
Pei Yansi was displeased; he had wanted to follow her back to the hotel to have a proper interrogation, but it didn’t turn out that way.
Furthermore, she liked snacks? How come he didn’t know that?
He intended to follow them, but seeing how well they got along, completely ignoring him, he frowned and decided to wait right there.
He didn’t like crowded places like the supermarket.
Pei Yansi stood on the roadside, lighting a cigarette. His tall figure cast a shadow on the ground, and passersby occasionally couldn’t help but give him a glance.
Too tall, too handsome, too charismatic.
Pei Yansi just silently smoked, not giving those people a glance. Occasionally, when he looked up, his cool gaze would make the covert onlookers quickly lower their heads.
He didn’t wait long roadside before Lu Yi and Shen Heyu emerged from the supermarket together.
He squinted slightly, looking at the shopping bag full of snacks in Lu Yi’s hand. He couldn’t help but frown—she liked to eat these things?
As Pei Yansi stepped forward, wanting to say something, his eyes suddenly caught sight of something in the corner reflecting a cold gleam.
His brow furrowed, and he immediately realized it was a switchblade.
