"Shen Heyu, don’t go yet, let me finish speaking."
Pei Yansi hurried out of the bed, not even bothering to put on shoes. Plus, it had only been three or four days since his abdominal injury had occurred; the wound was still healing.

"Shen Heyu, I can assure you that I had absolutely no hand in this matter, nor did I try to frame Lu Yi. There must be something else behind this. Just give me some time, I will get to the bottom of this."
Pei Yansi still did not release Shen Heyu’s hand. With a smile, she forcefully pried his fingers off her wrist and turned to reveal a mocking smile.
"Mr. Pei, do you really think I can still trust the results of your investigation? Just yesterday you told me that my kidnapping was orchestrated by Lu Yi and pinned on you."
"The next day, you’ve changed your story, saying Lu Yi had nothing to do with it at all. Instead, someone misled your investigation, leading to false conclusions."
Shen Heyu’s scorn was palpable as she laughed, "Mr. Pei, do you think I can still believe anything you say? You change your story every day. I can’t trust you at all. Who knows if what you’re telling me is true or false?"
"Shen Heyu, can you please stop being so upset? You know full well that what I investigate almost always turns out to be true. This time, it was just a miscalculation."
This time, Pei Yansi was completely manipulated by a schemer. His investigation pointed to Lu Yi, and he had no time to verify it further because he was worried. Even if there was a one in ten thousand chance it was Lu Yi, it could harm Shen Heyu.
Thus, as soon as Pei Yansi found out the result, he rushed to inform Shen Heyu, motivated by his concern and attachment to her, which allowed the real culprits lurking in the shadows to succeed.
"I trust Mr. Pei’s abilities; you are never wrong, except when it involves Lu Yi. How can I feel secure about letting you investigate anything related to Lu Yi again?"
"Mr. Pei, I’ve already made myself very clear. I don’t need your interference in the matters concerning me and Lu Yi. As for the last incident when I was kidnapped in the factory, Lu Yi has found out that it was staged by you. I’ve already asked him to investigate further."
"If you, Mr. Pei, find any evidence that can prove your innocence, come to me. Provide concrete evidence, and I will believe that you are innocent."
"Alright then, I won’t disturb Mr. Pei any longer; I’m leaving now."
Shen Heyu reached for the door handle, ready to open it, but Pei Yansi pressed his palm against the door to stop her from leaving.
"Are you leaving me to go to Lu Yi?"
"Yes," Shen Heyu responded, looking directly into Pei Yansi’s eyes.
She was indeed going to find Lu Yi, for he was in the room next to hers.
At that moment, Lu Yi locked the door and walked to the balcony to call Chen Wenzhou.
"Chen Wenzhou, you are crazy! The ’strong medicine’ you spoke of yesterday involved planning this car accident, nearly killing me, right?"
Lu Yi was a mild-mannered person, but this time he couldn’t help but explode with expletives. It felt as though magma was churning inside him, his whole body burning with anger.
Faced with Lu Yi’s furious outburst, Chen Wenzhou merely laughed loudly, "Relax, I know what I am doing when it comes to these matters. Aren’t you still jumping around, able to yell at me ?"
"Are you insane? If there had been any mistake, I might very well be lying in the ICU right now, my life hanging by a thread!" Lu Yi, furious, recalled how curious he was the day before about what Chen Wenzhou meant by "a strong medicine."

"How can I not be angry? Your plan not only hurt me but almost hurt Shen Heyu as well. I’m warning you, if you so much as harm a hair on her head, I won’t let it go easily."
Chen Wenzhou chuckled on the other end, "After today, I realize how important Shen Heyu is to you. Rest assured, I will not harm her in any future schemes, but only if you cooperate nicely."
"Are you threatening me?"
Chen Wenzhou denied it, "Why would I threaten a partner?"
"Having been angry for so long, you should have cooled down by now. If I guess right, you’re now in the hospital. Since you’re able to call me, that means Shen Heyu isn’t with you at the moment, but she’ll be back to see you soon. You better adjust your mood well, lest she notices something amiss."
Lu Yi scoffed, "You still have the nerve to remind me not to slip up. You’d better worry about yourself. This incident threatened Shen Heyu, and Pei Yan won’t easily let it go. He will definitely investigate this, and you better not get caught by Pei Yan."
"Don’t worry," Chen retorted, "no matter how much he investigates, he won’t trace it back to me or you. His investigation will lead back to himself."
"Are you that confident?" Lu Yi now regretted ever aligning with someone like Chen Wenzhou.
"Because there’s a mole by his side."
