Lu Yi, clutching that divorce certificate, charged over furiously. Upon seeing Shen Heyu still holding her phone, he angrily snatched it from her hands and saw “Doctor Gu” noted on the screen.
“You shameless woman, living in my house while flirting with another man, are you calling Doctor Gu now to tell him we’re divorced, so if you hook up with him it would be justified, is that it?”
Lu Yi’s words were incredibly offensive. Shen Heyu slowly rose to her feet, feeling as though a bucket of cold water was poured over her head, chilling her to the bone. She looked at Lu Yi, his features twisted in rage.
Lu Yi now daily managed to surprise Shen Heyu with a new low, and she was completely disappointed in him. She slowly raised her hand and said calmly, “Give me back my phone.”
“You vile woman, if you don’t clarify this divorce certificate today, you won’t live to leave this place, let alone get your phone back. I’ll give it back to you right now.”
Lu Yi glanced at Shen Heyu’s outstretched hand, then lifted his own high and with a smack shattered her phone into pieces. Shen Heyu was so calm, it was as if she had lost all signs of life; she turned to look at her phone on the ground.
Taking a deep breath, Shen Heyu turned back, raised her hand to slap him, but this time Lu Yi firmly caught her wrist with such force it felt like he might break it.
“You want to hit me? Haven’t you had enough at the hospital? Do you think I’m still naïve enough to just stand here and let you hit me? If you don’t explain this divorce certificate today, I’ll send you and your daughter to the hospital together. Don’t you love your daughter the most? Aren’t you the fondest of your bastard with Pei Yansi?”
No sooner had he finished than Shen Heyu raised her other hand, putting all her strength into a fierce slap across Lu Yi’s face. The slap numbed her hand, but she felt a surge of satisfaction in her heart.
“Shut your mouth, you bastard. If you cared about me having a daughter with Pei Yansi from the start, why did you approach me, show me affection? Couldn’t you have just stayed far away from me? Besides, when we got married, it was clear that this was a sham marriage.”
“I still have that divorce agreement in hand. Are you illiterate? Didn’t you read it clearly, spelling out that ours was a marriage in name only?”
“And Yuexue, she has both a father and a mother; she’s certainly not anyone’s bastard. Watch your mouth. I can overlook all the nasty things you say to me, but if you dare to insult my daughter, I will fight you to the end.”
Shen Heyu loved Yuexue dearly and would not tolerate a single bad word about her, especially coming from Lu Yi. She recalled how kind Lu Yi used to be to Yuexue, treating her as his own. Now, thinking back on those moments, Shen Heyu only felt nauseous.
Shen Heyu no longer believed in the Lu Yi from her memories; that must have been an act he put on to deceive her, and she couldn’t believe she fell for it.
Shen Heyu now felt even more that the once gentle and refined Lu Yi had become incredibly violent—not because he had changed into someone else, but because this was his true nature; he simply couldn’t be bothered to pretend anymore.
Lu Yi was stunned for a long time after that slap. He lifted his other hand to touch the pain on his face where Shen Heyu had struck him. Looking at her expression, he slowly smirked, his mouth twitching into a smile.
“You have such a temper. It seems you still haven’t gotten over Pei Yansi. That’s why you get so angry when I say that Pei Yansi’s daughter is illegitimate—because you’re still in love with Pei Yansi and that’s why you cherish the offspring of both of you,” Lu Yi spoke without restraint, spewing out offensive words without care. Shen Heyu, seething with anger, was about to slap him hard again, but this time Lu Yi forcefully pushed her onto the couch.
Even though Shen Heyu had only fallen onto the couch, she felt as if she’d been thrown from a great height onto concrete, hurting all over. Her head knocked against the couch, dizzying her for a moment, before Lu Yi immediately pulled her back up.
Waving the divorce papers in his other hand, he kept pressuring Shen Heyu. “You definitely don’t have the ability to go this far. Tell me who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes? Is it Pei Yansi, or is it that pretty boy from the hospital? I don’t think that pretty boy from the hospital has such enormous influence, does he?”
“So is all of this Pei Yansi’s doing? You’ve said so many harsh things to him, wanting to sever ties, but now he’s making us get a divorce. Do you two want to rekindle your relationship?”

Lu Yi was already furious, thinking all this was Pei Yansi’s doing, but now Shen Heyu told him it wasn’t. He furrowed his brows harshly, almost yelling at Shen Heyu, “Then who is the mastermind behind this? Could it be that pretty boy from the hospital? Ah, you’ve been scheming behind my back with him. Lu Yi, in a rage, grabbed Shen Heyu by the neck, and she started gasping for air, turning pale.
