Shen Jiangli furrowed his brows.
When he first returned from abroad to manage the Shen Family’s limited domestic assets, his main goal had been to find her in China.
Now that he had found her, if she wanted to leave forever, the best method would certainly be to go abroad.
That coincided perfectly with his future plans.
It wasn’t a difficult matter.
He said, “I can certainly do that, but I hope you can think it through.” After all, her marriage with Pei Yansi wasn’t so easily dissolved, and even if it were, given the vast assets of the Pei Family, the process would probably be extremely difficult to sort out.
“As long as you have thought it through, you can come to me anytime.”
“I have thought it through, I will leave without taking anything, and will not have any ties with the Pei Family.”
Shen Jiangli nodded, hearing the firmness in her voice. Thinking about the information he knew, she had done nothing wrong, yet she had to leave with nothing just to get a divorce — he could see that her marriage had not been happy.
Seeing how thin she had become, his heart ached.
He smiled reassuringly and said, “Don’t worry, when I take you away, I will ensure you receive the best treatment and will quickly have you looking healthy and well-fed.”
Shen Heyu managed a weak smile and said, “I have a favor to ask of you now.”
Pei Yansi left the hospital and returned to the car, seeing Bai Sheng’er still seated in the back. A flicker of annoyance flashed across his eyes.
Then he closed the car door, instructed the driver where to go after leaving, and contacted Zhao Jin to come and pick him up.
Zhao Jin hadn’t expected that his address would change to the hospital, initially it had been at his own apartment.
As soon as he picked up Pei Yansi, Zhao Jin eagerly asked, “President Pei, where are you injured?”
Leaning back in the rear seat, with his eyes closed, Pei Yansi said, “Find out if her child is still there.”
Zhao Jin paused for a moment, quickly understanding who he meant, and hurriedly said, “I’ll go right now.”
After speaking, he got out of the car and returned to the hospital.
He quickly obtained Shen Heyu’s medical report and, when he got back to the car, handed it to Pei Yansi, then bowed his head, not daring to speak.
Even so, he could still feel the air pressure in the backseat gradually decreasing.
Pei Yansi looked at the medical record, anger surged in him, yet at the same time, a feeling of helpless pain arose.
He didn’t know where this pain stemmed from, perhaps it was the fatal blow from Bai Sheng’er’s words — her child was likely not his,
but it was not saved either.
But every time he thought of her crying in his arms, saying that the child was gone, his heart ached.
He said solemnly, “Let’s go, back to the family mansion.”
Zhao Jin drove back to the Pei Mansion.
Pei Yansi’s steps were slightly unsteady as he walked, his tall frame swaying slightly, until he finally entered the marital room he shared with Shen Heyu.
The room was still filled with her scent.
Her purse was on the sofa, her pajamas that she had changed out of were on the bed, her clothes were in the wardrobe, and her toiletries were in the bathroom.
He hadn’t realized it before, but now suddenly felt that her presence was everywhere in this room.
He leaned against the couch and lit a cigarette.
It was already late at night, but he wasn’t the slightest bit sleepy.
The first night he left, he had drunk too much, and when Bai Sheng’er picked him up, he mistook her for Shen Heyu.
He found it strange; when he was drunk, seeing Bai Sheng’er had automatically made him think she was Shen Heyu.
For some reason, she said something to him, shifting the topic to Shen Fanshuang, and he ended up calling out her name.
It was because of that, he sobered up and eventually just let her take him to the apartment, where he slept on the sofa all night.
He surveyed the room; every piece of decor was a reminder of Shen Heyu, his agitation grew, and he got up and left for the study.
Shen Heyu was discharged from the hospital three days later.
Her health was already poor, but eager to leave as soon as possible, fearing that Pei Yansi might change his mind, she decided to finalize the divorce before leaving the country to recover properly.
When Shen Heyu was discharged, Shen Jiangli came to pick her up; he had been by her side taking care of her for those three days, bringing them closer.
He accompanied her to finalize the divorce settlement, then personally drove her to the Pei Mansion.
Shen Heyu, holding the divorce papers, went into the study and found Pei Yansi.
He was still wearing the same clothes from the hospital, as if he hadn’t changed, and the study’s ashtray was overflowing with cigarette butts.
It was evident that he had stayed there for the past two days, wallowing in despair.
Shen Heyu didn’t want to think about why he was , perhaps because of Bai Sheng’er. She stepped forward, placed the divorce papers in front of him, and said, “Please sign.”
Pei Yansi looked up, meeting her indifferent eyes, and felt that familiar sting in his heart once again.
He didn’t move for a moment.
Seeing this, Shen Heyu, worried he might change his mind, quickly said, “This was your own promise. Surely President Pei doesn’t intend to go back on his word?”
Pei Yansi scoffed, “You’re in such a hurry.”
He picked up his fountain pen and wrote down his name; his signature was bold and flamboyant, wildly different from the impression he usually gave.
Shen Heyu watched the handwriting, let out a long breath, finally relieved that this matter was concluded. She said, “I will leave without taking anything, rest assured, I won’t cause any trouble for President Pei or seek any share of your property. Goodbye.”
As Pei Yansi watched her leave, her back firm and determined, it was as if the moment she stepped out that door, she would sever all ties with him completely.
She was still noticeably thin, and he called out to her back, “After you leave, don’t tell anyone that you suffered malnutrition here. It’s embarrassing for me.”
Shen Heyu paused, surprised he would say such a thing.
She smiled indifferently and said, “Don’t worry, President Pei. It’s my own issue, a psychological one, and something I must overcome on my own. However, I’m thankful for the nutritionists you provided.”
With that, she left without looking back.
However, her final words infuriated Pei Yansi.
Even at this moment, she was thanking him, as if they had never had any close relationship.
Thinking this, a surge of anger rose in his chest.
Pei Yansi thought they were merely divorcing, and she would still work at Pei Corporation; they might meet again in the future.
However, three days later when he returned to the company, he found Shen Heyu’s desk had been cleared spotlessly clean as if she had never existed.
He asked her former assistant, Yun Duo, “Where is Director Shen?”
“Director Shen resigned, sir. She’s already left. Didn’t you know?” Yun Duo looked confused.
