Spiritual Energy Rejuvenation: I Began Cultivating By Farming Chapter 292

292: Chapter 237 292: Chapter 237 The person on the roof of the Earth God Temple’s eyes bulged with anger, and he longed to slap those officials to death, as well as kill the arrogant beggar, feeling the flames of rage spreading in his heart.

Yet, he restrained this thought, as reason told him that he still had a task at hand.

After those people left, the Earl did not relax, as this place was not yet safe.

Who would want to poison these two, and even send someone to capture him?

He had not wandered the Cultivation World, appearing only these two times; he should have no enemies.

The Earl knew that one who conspires once might conspire a second time.

If he left now, it was possible that the two would be killed.

Just two beggars, their deaths would not be pitied, but if they were murdered and it was blamed on him, it would bring disaster to his stockade, possibly inciting The Governmental Authorities to use it as a reason to attack or siege them.

“To find a pretext where none exists,” this saying could also be applied between the officials and the people.

The Earl’s caution was not without reason, as the person watching him was thinking about killing the two beggars once he was gone.

After laughing, the beggars realized they still had steamed buns in their hands, which although no longer warm and slightly cold and hard, did not have the sour taste of the leftovers they usually scavenged.

“Thank you, thank you for the buns you gave, young man.”

The two gobbled up the buns in their hands in a few bites, still not sated, they looked at the Earl, hoping he would share more.

Having already eaten two buns, the Earl had originally intended to buy more to store in his Storage Bag for the journey back.

Seeing the two looking at him so pitifully, he could only divide four more buns from his Storage Bag for them.

“Thank you, thank you!”

As the two devoured the buns, they forgot the earlier unpleasantness, smearing the white buns with the dirt of their hands, leaving fingerprints on them.

Yet, they felt nothing and continued to eat, forgetting their previous expectation for the Earl to compensate for their broken bowl.

Deep inside, they felt this young man was no ordinary person and even they, as simple as they were, realized they must have been poisoned before.

The young man before them had so kindly healed them, and as beggars, although lacking malice and gratefulness, they were not ones to confuse kindness with enmity.

The young man had disrupted their meal to save them, and now he had even given them such delicious buns to eat.

The Earl sat in a corner, not asleep.

After tonight’s events, how could he dare to sleep, always on guard for someone to attack.

Though sitting, one hand was ready on the Magic Wand in his embrace.

Should anyone attack them, he would respond with the Magic Wand immediately.

The two beggars, now full, sat on the other side.

At first, they dared not sleep, but gradually they succumbed to slumber and snored.

The person on the roof, using his Divine Sense, probed the three inside the Earth God Temple.

The beggars lay on the ground inside, on straw spread out for bedding, sleeping soundly.

The young man seemed to be asleep.

The shopkeeper had instructed him to follow this man—could this man possess treasures?

To find out whether the man indeed had treasures, he took a Sleeping Drug from his Storage Bag.

He decided to drug the people in the Earth God Temple.

He sensed that the young man did not have Spiritual Energy and appeared to be a foreigner, just like an ordinary person.

This person must have secrets—could the secrets belong to him personally, or to his family?

To capture and torture him would reveal everything; would searching him not confirm the suspicions?

The Earl sensed an odd smell in the air; the Magic Wand in his hand could not stay hidden within his embrace, emitting faint light.

In truth, he was using it covertly, intending to use the Magic Wand to deal with anything the enemy might use to ambush him.

“Who’s there, skulking about?

The Earl would not sit idly by; he leapt up from the Earth God Temple and looked towards the roof, jumping up onto it.

The would-be ambusher, feeling guilty as a thief, upon hearing the Earl’s demand, even used his flying sword to ascend high into the air.

In the darkness, the Earl only saw a shadow soaring skyward.

He could not make out the person’s face, only that they wore black clothing and were Cultivators.

To be attacked at the Earth God Temple twice in a row with such lowly tactics was despicable.

The Earl stood silently, not returning to the temple chamber inside.

He had already noticed that the two, who had recently been snoring in their sleep, were now as quiet as the dead.

Even a fool could guess that the assailant had used a Sleeping Drug this time.

The Earl stood at the entrance of the Earth God Temple all night.

As dawn approached, he prepared to set off.

On his journey, he remained cautious of being followed back to the stockade, not taking the direct route home but making sure to diversify his path.

This time passing through the town, he would not begrudge spending money to avoid sleeping outside and instead rented a room at an inn.

The person following the Earl tracked him another day, sensing that he was always on the move, yet seemingly without purpose, making no contact with anyone, showing no other actions or intentions.

He even doubted the shopkeeper’s motives—what sort of secret could such an ordinary person hold to warrant this surveillance?

As the person he was tracking checked into an inn, he too would not spend another night outdoors following him but quietly found a room in the same inn to stay.
