SSS Rank: Strongest Beast Master Chapter 109

Draven's question hung in the air, a summary of their impossible situation. "How in the world are we supposed to get that little drop of sunshine into that giant tree?"

Jonah's eyes moved from the glowing golden vial in Master Fen's hand to the Blight-Heart Tree. The creature wasn't just defended by an army of monsters; its own body was a fortress. A whirlwind of thick, thorny vines, each as sharp as a spear, spun around its trunk, creating a near-impenetrable vortex. Even when Maul or Draven managed to smash a vine, two more would grow back in its place, regenerating instantly.

Vanessa's shields flickered violently as a massive root slammed into them. "I can't keep this up forever!" she yelled, her knuckles white. "The blight is actively corrupting my mana!"

They were in a losing battle. They had the cure, but no way to deliver it. They couldn't fight their way through the storm of thorns, and the tree's hide was too thick to break. They needed… something else.

An idea sparked in Jonah's mind, born from the memory of his fight in the Preserve and the lessons of the Artificers. Not brute force. Not an overwhelming attack. They needed precision.

"We don't need a cannon," Jonah said, his voice cutting through the noise. "We need a needle. A hypodermic needle to inject the catalyst right into its core."

Master Fen's eyes widened. "A living projectile! Brilliant, boy! Absolutely brilliant!"

"Can you make something like that?" Draven grunted as he blocked an attack from a Thorned Horror.

"I can try," Jonah said, his focus narrowing. He had the right tools in his library of essences. He just had to put them together, and fast.

He reached into his mind, past the raging form of Maul and the silent shadow of Specter. He called forth his scout. The Gale-Screecher appeared in a shimmer of grey and brown feathers. It floated in the calm spot near Vanessa's shield. It was the creature he had designed for the Dragon's Tooth mountains, a sleek, winged beast built for speed and navigating treacherous environments.

It wasn't strong enough. Not for this.

"Hold them off for thirty seconds!" Jonah shouted to the others. He closed his eyes, ignoring the battle raging around him. He focused all of his will, all of his energy, on the two essences he needed.

One was the Gale-Screecher, a being of wind and sonar, of flight and navigation.

The other was an old memory, a spark of power he had claimed long ago during his first exam in the Preserve. The essence of the Iron-Billed Woodpecker. An essence of focused, piercing power.

He performed a blitz-synthesis.

It was a risky, reckless move, forcing two disparate concepts together with nothing but raw mana and sheer willpower. He felt a sharp, stabbing pain behind his eyes as he bypassed all the usual safety protocols, weaving the two blueprints into one.

The air around the Gale-Screecher crackled with energy. A flash of blinding white light forced everyone to look away for a second. The creature gave a loud, sad cry as its body began to move and change shape strangely.

Its sleek body elongated, becoming more aerodynamic, like a living arrow. Its grey feathers darkened, taking on a metallic sheen, and flattened against its body to reduce drag. Its wings sharpened, becoming hard-edged and cutting.

But the most dramatic change was its head. Its beak began to glow with a faint, internal light, hardening and extending, the tip sharpening to a needle-like point that hummed with intense power.

The new creature hovered before Jonah, a flawless weapon meant to pierce. All its focus was on one powerful, piercing attack.

"Incredible," Vanessa breathed, staring at the Harrier.

"No time!" Jonah said. He took the vial of golden catalyst from Master Fen. With a final application of his will, a small hole appeared on the Harrier's back, lined with organic tendrils. He carefully put the vial inside, and the tendrils closed around it, holding it tight.

The delivery system was ready.

Jonah looked at Draven and Vanessa, his eyes intense. "I only get one shot at this. The Harrier is fast, but it's not indestructible. I need a clear path, just for a second. I need you to give me an opening, right in the center of those tangled vines!"

Draven met his gaze and gave a sharp nod. A fierce grin spread across his face. "An opening. You got it."

He turned to Vanessa. "Ready to make some noise?"

Vanessa's expression was one of focused determination. "Let's break it."

She dropped to one knee, placing both palms flat against the ground. The runic tattoos on her arms flared to life, glowing with a brilliant blue light. "Channeling all remaining power into a single concussive blast!"

At the same time, Draven raised his greatsword high above his head. The blade burned with a furious, golden energy, so bright it was hard to look at. He let out a primal roar, pouring every last ounce of his power into the strike. "FOR THE ACADEMY!"

Vanessa pushed her hands forward. A huge wave of blue force erupted from the ground, racing towards the tree. Draven brought his sword down in a powerful arc, unleashing a blade of golden energy that flew through the air, merging with Vanessa's attack.

The combined attacks crashed into the twisting thorns. For a glorious moment, the chaos was blasted apart. The whirlwind faltered, and a clear, open hole appeared in the tree's defenses, revealing the thick, twisted bark of the trunk beneath.

Jonah saw it. His opening.

The Thunder-Drill Harrier tensed, its razor-sharp beak humming with intense power.

Jonah pointed, his will a focused spear.

The creature shot forward. It wasn't flying; it was a living missile, a streak of shiny light and focused purpose, aimed directly at the heart of the Blight-Heart Tree.
