SSS Rank: Strongest Beast Master Chapter 27

Seraph observed quietly as Jonah pushed Maul to its limits – unleashing its raw power to crush a target, then dialing it back, guiding the brute into a tense, controlled calm. After a week of intense struggle, he had achieved a level of control she hadn't thought possible. A rare spark of approval lit in her sharp gray eyes.

"You've learned to command the beast within the beast," she said, her voice echoing in the stone training room. "Good. But creating weapons is meaningless if you don't understand the war you're creating them for."

She tossed him a clean towel. "Pack a bag. Both you and Vanessa. Your research project is going on a field trip."

Jonah was confused. "A field trip? Where?"

"To the front lines," Seraph said, her face hardening into its usual grim mask. "It's time you saw what all this is for. It's time you saw the Wall."

The journey felt like a hard snap back to reality. They left the beautiful, almost magical grounds of the Academy aboard a stark, gray military transport. The vehicle was purely functional, all hard metal benches and rattling plates. Way different from the luxury train that had first brought Jonah from Cinderfall.

As they traveled, the lush green landscape slowly transformed. The trees grew more sparse, the ground more scarred and barren. They began to see military checkpoints, defensive bunkers, and long, ugly trenches carved into the earth. The luxury and safety of Mystic Phoenix Academy felt like a dream long forgotten. Out here was the truth – the raw, brutal reality of a nation at war.

Their destination was a forward operating base called "Watchpoint Grizz." It was a grim, ugly fortress of concrete and steel, built right up against the reason for its existence: the Great Wall.

The Wall was breathtaking. It soared hundreds of feet into the air, a colossal barrier of black, magically reinforced stone that stretched as far as the eye could see in either direction. And from the top of that wall, Jonah could feel it: a constant, pressing aura of malice and hunger from the Demonic Beast territories on the other side.

The atmosphere at Watchpoint Grizz was nothing like the Academy. The youthful energy and competitive spirit were gone, replaced by a tense, professional exhaustion. The Elites here weren't students; they were soldiers. Their armor was scarred and dented, their faces etched with fatigue and a hardness that only came from staring death in the face every single day. They moved with a quiet, weary purpose, their gazes constantly scanning the top of the Wall.

Jonah and Vanessa, in their clean Academy uniforms, felt completely out of place, like children who had wandered into a den of wolves.

A patrol returned while they were there, and the harsh reality of the war hit Jonah like a physical blow. They weren't returning with triumphant smiles. They were carrying their wounded. A Mage was being supported by two Warriors, his leg wrapped in bloody bandages. A Tamer was slumped over, unconscious, while his giant, bear-like companion limped beside him, its fur matted with dark, foul-smelling blood. This wasn't a test. This wasn't for credits. This was life and death.

Suddenly, a wailing siren blared across the entire watchpoint, a piercing, urgent sound that made Jonah jump.

"BREACH ATTEMPT! SECTOR GAMMA! ALL AVAILABLE UNITS, REPORT!" a voice roared over the intercom.

"Stay here," Seraph commanded, her face grim. "Watch and learn."

She led them to an observation deck, a fortified balcony overlooking a section of the Wall about half a mile away. Jonah could see it clearly. A massive creature, a horrifying mix of lizard and porcupine, was slamming its body against the Wall. It was covered in thick, armored plates, and a ridge of long, crimson spines ran down its back. It let out a screech that sounded like tearing metal.

"A Crimson-Spine Ravager," Vanessa breathed, her face pale. "I've only read about them. They're Grade 4 beasts. Their spines can punch through standard magical shields."

A team of three Elites raced along the top of the Wall to meet the threat. Jonah could see the color of their badges, even from this distance. They were all Bronze-Rank Elites.

What happened next was a display of power so far beyond anything Jonah had ever witnessed, it felt like watching gods at war.

The Warrior on the team, a mountain of a man, slammed his hands together. He didn't summon a simple shield. He created a wall of pure, shimmering force, fifty feet wide, reinforcing the Great Wall just as the Ravager slammed into it again. The entire structure groaned, but it held.

The Mage, a slender woman who moved with fluid grace, began to chant. Runes of explosive, orange energy appeared in the air around her. With a flick of her wrist, she sent them raining down on the Ravager. Each explosion was powerful enough to shake the ground, blasting chunks of armor from the beast's back.

The third member was a Tamer, but his beast wasn't a small companion like Nyx or Rook. It was a colossal, hulking bear made of stone and earth, easily thirty feet tall. The Earth-Bear roared and leaped from the top of the Wall, crashing down onto the Ravager with the force of a landslide.

The two giants clashed, their battle a whirlwind of claws, teeth, and raw power. The Ravager's spines shot out like massive arrows, but they shattered against the Earth-Bear's stony hide.

Jonah and Vanessa watched, completely humbled. They were speechless.

All the training, the clever plans, the rivalries – they felt like nothing now. Like they'd been preparing for a test and walked into a war instead. This was real combat. This was what it meant to be an Elite on the front lines. The power, the speed, the perfect coordination of the Bronze-Rank team – it was a whole different universe of strength.

The fight was over in less than a minute. The Mage's runes weakened the Ravager, the Warrior's wall kept it contained, and the Tamer's bear finally snapped the beast's spine with a sickening crunch.

The silence that followed was heavy.

Jonah looked over. Vanessa's usual sharp curiosity had vanished, replaced by a calm, serious kind of respect. He felt the same way. The Headmaster, Seraph, they weren't just training him to be a weapon. They were training him to be a soldier. A soldier in a brutal, unending war he had only just begun to comprehend.

His motivation was no longer about escaping Cinderfall or proving himself to his classmates. It was about one day being strong enough to stand on that Wall and fight like that. To face the true horrors of their world and not flinch.
