SSS Rank: Strongest Beast Master Chapter 88

For hours, the silent, unbelievable miracle continued.

Sylva stood at the center of its growing oasis, a calm beacon of life. The golden-green light of its aura pulsed gently, pushing back the grey mist and turning the dead earth into rich soil. The oasis of life expanded steadily, a slow tide of vibrant green washing over the despair of the Withered Scar.

The team watched, stunned. The Temple Knights, once hostile, now showed deep respect, their hands off their swords. The Academy soldiers, usually cold and cynical, stared with disbelieving eyes.

"I've never seen anything like it," a tough Academy sergeant whispered to his comrade. "Not in thirty years of fighting beasts."

Vanessa had long since given up trying to analyze it. She was just watching, a genuine smile on her face. "He's really doing it," she whispered to Seraph. "He's actually healing it."

Seraph just nodded, her eyes never leaving Jonah. He stood near his creation, a quiet guardian, his face calm and focused. He wasn't just a student anymore. He wasn't just an asset. He was something more.

As the sun reached its peak in the sky, the circle of purified land had grown to be hundreds of feet wide. It was a perfect, vibrant green island. And it was getting close to the middle of the Withered Scar. That's where the huge magic problem started fifty years ago.

Suddenly, the ground trembled. RUMBLE.

It wasn't a violent shake, but a deep, low groan, like a sleeping giant stirring in protest. The soldiers tensed, hands flying back to their weapons.

"What was that?" a knight called out, his voice sharp with alarm.

The air grew tense again, the oppressive cold seeping back in at the edges of the oasis. The blight was fighting back.

"It's the epicenter," Cardinal Evangeline said, her voice cutting through the rising tension. She pointed towards the center of the Scar. "The creature's power is getting close to the source of the corruption."

The ground trembled again, more strongly this time. RUMBLE-GROAN.

Jonah felt it through his link with Sylva - a wave of pure malice pushing back against the gentle energy of life.

Sylva's golden-green light flickered for a moment, like a candle in a strong wind, but it held firm. It pushed its power forward, the grass and flowers continuing their slow march towards the center.

And then, Sylva's purification revealed what the blight had been hiding.

As the wave of healing light washed over the very heart of the scar, the ground cracked open. Not from an earthquake, but as if something was being dug up. A sharp, black glass shard, the size of a man's chest, rose from the soil.

It pulsed. A dark purple light, full of deep and ancient evil, throbbed from within, like a corrupted heart beating a slow, evil rhythm.

thump-thump… thump-thump…

An aura of pure malice radiated from the shard, an energy so intense and so evil it felt like it could freeze a soul. It was the absolute opposite of Sylva's serenity.

The Sorrow-Walkers, who had been sleeping quietly at the edge of the oasis, began to stir and whine in their sleep. Their brief peace was being ripped away by the artifact's evil, suffocating power.

The soldiers, both Academy and Church, instinctively took a step back, their faces pale. The aura coming from that thing was so terrifying in a way that no monster could ever be.

Cardinal Evangeline's expression was grim, her earlier awe replaced by a cold, calculating intensity. She turned her sharp gaze to Jonah.

"This," she announced, her voice ringing with finality, "is the true test, child."

Everyone turned to look at her, a dawning realization on their faces.

" Your creature is remarkable. It can heal the symptoms, the damage done to the land. But can it destroy the disease?" she asked, her eyes fixed on the pulsing black shard. "The holy magic of my predecessors shattered the demon's physical body fifty years ago, but this fragment of its soul has poisoned the land ever since. It cannot be moved. It cannot be broken by any conventional means. We could only contain it and wait for a power greater than our own."

Jonah stared at the shard. He finally understood. This was the "Heart of the Scar." A piece of a demon's very being, left to rot and corrupt the world for half a century.

As if sensing its audience, the Heart of the Scar unleashed a powerful wave of corrupting energy.

A wave of purple-black light began to erupt from it. The newly grown grass at the edge of the oasis instantly withered and died, turning black and brittle. The beautiful white flowers drooped and dissolved into fine grey dust.

The pacified Sorrow-Walkers shrieked in renewed, even greater agony, scrambling away from the now-shrinking circle of life, their brief moment of peace a torturous memory.

The two opposing forces were now in direct conflict. Sylva's golden-green light pushed back, a shield of serenity against a tide of despair. The Heart of the Scar's corrupting pulse pushed forward, a wave of malice against a wall of peace.

The two forces met in the middle of the field, creating a shimmering, violent line in the air where the two auras clashed and tore at each other. The green oasis was no longer expanding. It was fighting for its very life.

Jonah realized the truth with a sinking heart. The Cardinal hadn't just brought him here to heal the land. That was only half the test, the public part. She had brought him here to do what the entire Holy Church, with all its power, couldn't: to destroy this indestructible artifact.

He had walked right into her trap, and the final, deadly piece of it had just been revealed. This wasn't just a test of creation anymore. It was a battle. A battle between two fundamental forces of the universe, and he and Sylva were standing right in the middle of it.
