"He Zhilan, look quickly, who knows who posted this piece of gossip on the wall, it’s slandering you." Huang Cai’s expression was a mixture of worry and anger, pointing to a piece of paper the size of a newspaper posted on the wall at the entrance.
He Zhilan, a freshman majoring in foreign languages, was already well-known, and with the suicide of Liao Qinghong, almost everyone at Capital University knew her. As she appeared, everyone pointed and whispered.
"What is this?" He Zhilan frowned, and noticing the looks on people’s faces, she had a bad premonition. Pushing through the crowd to get a better view, she stood in front of the gossip, and read the content in mere seconds.
The contents were almost scandalous for the time. It claimed that He Zhilan was a home-wrecker who loved to steal other people’s boyfriends. First, she allegedly stole Liao Qinghong’s boyfriend that caused her to commit suicide. Then, she supposedly bewitched a senior, leading a young official from a normal school in the capital to cancel his wedding to propose to her.
The following sentences were even worse, each one more offensive than the next, filled with all sorts of vulgar words and vicious curses.
"Who did this?" He Zhilan ripped the flyer off the wall, trembling with rage. She scanned the crowd and her gaze landed on Gu En, who was standing under a tree across the way.
When He Zhilan saw her in the morning, Gu En looked like a delinquent. But now, she had changed her clothes and stood under the tree full of vitality. She wore high heels and put her hands in her pockets. She locked eyes with He Zhilan and smirked dismissively.
"Don’t need to look further, it must be her." Jiang Biyun whispered in He Zhilan’s ear, "She’s so cunning!"
He Zhilan clenched the flyer in her hand and strode towards Gu En. "It’s you, isn’t it? Gu En, aren’t your tactics getting more and more cunning? You failed to deceive me last night and now you’re angry, isn’t it? So, this is your idea of throwing mud at me?"
"Evidence? He Zhilan, we should always ask for proof in all things." Gu En shrugged and smirked, "If you can provide evidence, I’ll admit I did it. If not, you can’t just blame whoever you want."
"What goes around comes around, Gu En. Haven’t you heard that? Mean people always get what they deserve! " He Zhilan ripped the flyer into pieces and threw them at Gu En’s face. "For such unethical actions, aren’t you afraid that God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning while you’re walking?"
This action enraged Gu En, who raised her hand to slap He Zhilan. But Tan Heqian, who had just arrived, grabbed her hand. Jiang Biyun and Chen Xiting quickly stepped in to protect He Zhilan.
"What are you all looking at? Rumors stop with the wise. There are always some insane people in school who can’t stand others living well, and they love to smear others. Look at yourself first, wandering around like a hooligan doing whatever you please!" Chen Xiting shouted a few words to the crowd, then fixed her gaze on Gu En, her words revealing the implicit meaning, and everyone understood.
"Exactly! What does Liao Qinghong’s suicide have to do with our He Zhilan? Everyone who was there knows that Liao Qinghong was provoked by her boyfriend to jump off the building. He Zhilan had nothing to do with her boyfriend!" Tan Heqian used his male advantage to forcefully pull away Gu En’s hand. "So now, when slander doesn’t work, you want to resort to violence?
