"Zhilan!" Hearing He Zhilan, Kang Xing immediately changed his tone, and then, glaring angrily at the expressionless He Teng beside him on Zhilan’s behalf, he headed into the cafeteria with her. "Zhilan, don’t be upset, you are so good, if the captain doesn’t want you, he must be blind! Don’t worry, if the captain doesn’t want you, I do! Once I, Kang Xing, have the ability, I will marry you! Humph!"
With that, Kang Xing purposely huffed loudly in He Teng’s direction, took He Zhilan’s hand, found a seat, and then hurried to fetch breakfast for He Zhilan.
"What a dumb appearance!" Niu Rang strolled over, shaking his head, "Sister-in-law, don’t take him too seriously, I suspect he’s not very intelligent."
He Zhilan was also taken aback by Kang Xing’s words. To be honest, what Kang Xing said really was terrifying, right?
What did he mean, when he, Kang Xing, had the ability, he would marry her? That silly kid, did he really think He Teng had wronged her and was expressing indignation on her behalf?
"Brother, did Kang Xing misunderstand something? Why aren’t you explaining it to him?" He Zhilan turned to look at He Teng behind her. He Teng couldn’t possibly not have heard what Kang Xing said.
"Explain what?" He Teng himself didn’t know. What was there to explain? How should he explain it?
The divorce was a fact, and it was him who proposed it initially.
As for why they divorced, He Teng would not tell, so to this day, the entire army is still guessing why he and He Zhilan got divorced.
Many people believe it was because of He Teng, but, quite a few people said it was because He Zhilan had been beguiled in the capital. However, it was their private matter, and He Teng would never give any explanation just because others were curious or misunderstood him.
Sometimes in others’ eyes, the more explanations you give, the more it appears as if you’re hiding something.
After she divorced him, He Zhilan was able to come to the army, which made many people’s speculations untenable. Some had unkind things to say. But He Zhilan’s arrival made many people realize that even though they were divorced, it was not due to big quarrels or fights.
Kang Xing knew that He Zhilan loved to drink bean juice, so he brought her a scallion roll and bean juice, carefully placed in front of He Zhilan, saying, "Zhilan, eat quickly! The bean juice is still hot! If you think the bean juice is bland, I’ll go add two more spoons of sugar for you."
"No need, no need!" He Zhilan waved her hands continuously, "Kang Xing, you eat too, even without sugar, I can eat the bean juice."
Kang Xing’s cautious and protective attitude made He Zhilan both moved and amused. Where could you find someone so pure-hearted in this day and age?
"Don’t girls love sweet things? How can you drink bland soy milk?" Kang Xing asked in confusion. He sat down next to He Zhilan, pushing He Teng to sit together with Niu Rang opposite them.
The army’s steamed buns and scallion rolls were made especially large. He Zhilan touched her nose, looked at the scallion roll nearly twice the size of her fist, then silently broke it in half. She took a bite out of one half and extended the other half to He Teng across the table.
"We can’t waste the army’s food. I can’t finish this much. Brother, I’m giving this half to you." After waiting a few seconds without He Teng reaching out to take it, He Zhilan explained her intentions.
He Teng still didn’t accept it, but at least he opened his mouth to reply, "Just this rabbit-like appetite? You eat this little at school? No wonder after less than a year in the capital, you’ve become thinner. If you can’t finish it, don’t plan on leaving the mess hall today."
