Seeing that Lin Lan was still standing and there was no place to sit, Gumi whispered, “Third Aunt, sit here on the edge of the kang,” Because of what happened last time they met, she felt a little uneasy.
She was a few months older than Dawang, but she was normally just a quiet and honest soul. Besides working, all she did was still work. She was not as cunning as Gaoliang, but she was also not as sweet-mouthed as Maisui.
In the past, she and Maisui were both ordered by the old lady to tend to Han Jinyu’s laundry and so on. Maisui could at least earn some food from that, but Gumi couldn’t.
And due to the fact that their grandmother disliked her grandchildren who ate without contributing to the work points, Gumi became even more sensitive to emotions and was especially quiet.
At this moment, although she wanted to say something to Lin Lan to show her affection, she couldn’t say it, so she felt a little restless.

Gaoliang curled her lips when she heard this, “Eating this measly portion is considered too oily? If you don’t like it, give your portion to me then— I love it.”
Maisui laughed and said, “At home, my Third Aunt gave me some, but I don’t even like them.”
Gaoliang rolled his eyes.
Maisui couldn’t care less about him and only talked to Gumi.
Eldest Sister-in-law Han brought all the dishes to the southern kang whereas Lin Lan served the dishes on the northern kang.
The Second Family’s aunt immediately picked up her chopsticks and selected a good amount of vegetables to eat. Xiaofu still had a runny nose and as he tried to wipe it off, it caused Maisui to respond in a direct manner.
After she was raised by Lin Lan in a gentle and refined manner, it made her uncomfortable to watch other’s sloppiness as they handled chopsticks and chatted away. Plus, the Second Family themselves had all sorts of negative habits on display at the table.
Even though it was a communal pot of vegetables, Second Sister-in-law Han turned over the greens with her chopsticks in order to find a piece of meat.
Gaoliang rattled her chopsticks and Xiaofu sucked in his snot while spitting his mouth. Dafu was not much better as his body reeked of the odour that indicated he hadn’t bathed all winter, piercing her nose.
Maisui felt sick and didn’t eat a single bite.
Xiaowang was not hungry at all since he ate a bowl of stuffed dumplings before he came.
Sanwang couldn’t comprehend their behaviour and frowned, wondering how they could behave so rudely. If he were the one who kept lathering his spit all over a communal plate of vegetables, wouldn’t his parents never let him hear the end of it?
Thinking about the five whips he endured,he held back his urges.
In the end, Maisui and Gumi also got off the kang. Xiaowang and Sanwang didn’t care much about eating, so they let the Second Sister-in-law’s family dig through the pot of cabbage.
