"I see." Nathan closed his eyes for a moment. With Risa confirming the death of her uncle, her revenge was finally over.
"I…" Selena clenched her fists.
Nathan simply stroked her hair while saying, "No need to say it. I know how kind you are."
The fact that Selena ended up isolating herself inside for the last few days because he killed her uncle alone was enough for him.
In the end, he still felt bad for killing his uncle. And this revenge would continue until the rest of her family died.
She might act cold the whole time, like when she said her uncle's corpse would just dirty her eyes. Nathan knew she just didn't want to see it and make it hard for her to control herself.
Selena's body was shaking as tears couldn't help but stream down. "Why is it so easy for a family member to torture each other? Why is our noble society filled with such a cold and ruthless relationship?
"Why were we born as a marriage tool for the sake of the family?"
The questions coming out of her mouth were the same reasons Nathan avoided becoming a noble.
Even if he didn't wish for such a thing, others wouldn't look at it that way.
There was no answer coming out of Nathan's mouth. Even if he assured her, it wasn't genuine. Even on Earth, he could still see several of those cases all around the world, whether it was a country, wealthy family, or big corporation elites.
Selena knew that if there was indeed a solution to her questions, she wouldn't have asked him about it. She was just letting out her frustration.
That was why Nathan just kept stroking her hair without saying anything.
Still, after letting out all that, her complexion had gotten better.
She must have been devastated and couldn't fall asleep for several days. In just a few minutes, she actually fell asleep.
Nathan gently put her down and let her rest.
When he exited, he saw Flora standing right in front of the door, as if she had been waiting for them the whole time.
"Flora? What are you doing here? Don't tell me. You have been waiting for us the entire time?" Nathan blinked his eyes a few times.
"Nope. I just stopped after hearing Selena shouting something about noble society." Flora raised two fingers. "Actually, I have come to tell her two things. First of all, I will be taking care of her mother's side. She doesn't seem to be that interested in eliminating them, but they might come back to haunt her in the future if we let them go.
"So, it's best to eliminate them entirely. Since she focuses more on her uncle, I will be the one doing the dirty work for her ex-mother's side."
"Sorry." Nathan sighed. He never thought even Flora would end up getting involved in this revenge. Even though it was just to clean up, it was still too much.
"Don't worry about it. At the very least, it looks like she has gotten a bit better. Once she wakes up, make sure to make her eat well. She hasn't eaten anything in the last two days, you know. We're worried about her health."
Flora nodded. "Anyway, you don't have to worry about the Ashton family's side either. Due to the lack of a legitimate successor, the Ashton family's territory will be handled by the mayors the central government sent.
"So Selena doesn't have to worry about her family. It doesn't seem you're planning to wait for long to find her father, so this should be enough for a solution."
Nathan nodded. "Thank you so much."
"What is this? You've been thanking me again and again. Are you tired as well?" Flora chuckled. "There's no need to thank me."
Nathan smiled. "Well, I should probably thank you. After all, I have to ask you for another thing."
"Can you inquire about the progress of the team who is handling the Divine Hand? Have they come up with a solution yet?
"I need to know the timing so that we can strike them at the right time. After all, the Divine Hand is not an easy opponent." Nathan sighed.
"I don't know, but I will ask them about it."
Nathan crossed his arms, looking at Flora as though he were thinking about something.
"What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that? Don't tell me. You have finally fallen for my charm?" She winked playfully.
Nathan only chuckled. He just recalled the relationship between her and Melissa. No one knew that Melissa would have such a story behind her.
"Have you learned a lot under Melissa?" Nathan asked.
"Of course. I don't mind showing it to you. No. Maybe I should wait until we go on a mission? You're going to be shocked." Flora grinned.
"Is that so? I'm looking forward to it. Just listen to Melissa. She might be like that, but she is a good person inside."
"Hmm? Don't tell me… Have you done it with Melissa?" Flora took a step back in shock.
"What makes you think that way?" Nathan chuckled. "I haven't done anything."
"I'm just joking." Flora covered her mouth.
"Anyway, I'm going around to check on others. What are you planning to do?"
"I'm taking a rest right now. Maybe I should accompany you…" Flora glanced at Nathan.
"I don't mind." Nathan nodded. "We're going to discuss the next mission tomorrow, right?"
"Yes. We'll probably leave the day after. Sera has made a lot of preparations for the discussion. I don't know the details, but I don't think this is a simple mission."
"You're not going to help her?"
"No. I don't think I will even say anything to her plan." Nathan shook his head.
"Eh? You're not going to?"
"Yeah. If I keep helping her, she will think that everything will be fine as long as I'm there. Once I can't be by her side, she will suffer a much harsher setback.
"Even if there's a mistake or questionable decision, as long as it's not dangerous enough to harm our lives, I'm not planning to say anything.
"To propose a plan, to execute it together, to see a mistake, and to fix it… Unfortunately, even though this sounds cruel, mistakes are indeed the best way to improve."
"That sounds like you." Flora smiled.
