Lin Xin had always seemed like a nice girl, but she was not incapable of a few verbal attacks once provoked.
Even Yang Nian, who generally had a good temper, was a little miffed by his words. But he had a good mental fortitude, and he quickly composed himself.
“This matter is no longer just a disagreement between students. It has already tarnished the coalition between two reputable schools. It’s only right that we involve those with higher authority to preside over the discussion and settlement, don’t you think?”

But Lin Xinpushed the dessert away and scoffed. “I’ve been having a toothache recently, so I can’t really eat sweets.”
Yang Nian only smiled and didn’t push her further.
“So you want to drag the principals into this matter?” Lin Xinasked. “Do you want to worsen the conflict?”
Yang Nian’s lips twitched, and he almost dropped his smile. “The Yan family holds a prominent position in both business and society, so anything that involves them is naturally of the utmost importance. If this issue is not handled properly, it will have lasting repercussions on both schools.
“We don’t want that to happen, do we? Why don’t we resolve this as soon as possible instead of dragging it on for much longer?
“I’ll give you one more chance. Sit down with Yan Wei, apologize, and settle it peacefully. This is the only way to benefit everyone. What do you say?”
A spark of interest lit up Yao Tang’s eyes. “This is the last chance, huh? What if we still refuse?”
She looked like she had just stumbled across something very amusing and was determined to get to the bottom of it.
Her lips were even curled at the corners.
Yang Nian took one look at her expression and felt as if she had seen through him. He was no match for her; he had completely lost the lead in this conversation.
He was not happy about it, of course, and his tone turned aloof and business-like.
“If you’re not willing, then we’ll just have to find other methods to bed your ill. Don’t blame us if you end up getting hurt in the process. I sincerely hope that you would think this through carefully. Don’t let your emotions get the best of you. It’s not so bad to humble yourself every once in a while, especially in front of a powerful adversary.
“Besides, our offer of compensation still stands. We can give you 12 million if you yield to my conditions.”
12 million was more than enough to last the common man his lifetime.
Even so, Yao Tangremained unfazed at the mention of such an exorbitant amount of money. She didn’t even look tempted by it. “All right, then. Let’s give it a try and see, shall we?”
She had been bored for quite a while now, with no worthy opponent to play with.
Now that things had turned out like this, she might as well relieve her boredom and enjoy the ride.
Yang Nian, on the other hand, was in disbelief. He had offered everything he could, but this girl still refused to lower her head.
He wasn’t sure if she was merely stubborn or stupid.
His eyes flashed with disappointment.
“I see. I hope that when the Yan family comes after you, you will still be as confident as you are now.”
Lin Xin took a sip of water and asked, “What does any of this have to do with the Yang family?”
Yang Nian’s answer was immediate, albeit a little pointless. “Both are well-respected families in Beijing. We just want to look out for each other, that’s all.”
Lin Xin didn’t believe him, of course. He might not be as bright asYao TangorQin Jing, but she was still able to recognize if one was lying to her face.
Besides, her test results had been improving recently, which meant that she was certainly smarter than she used to be.
Now, she knew if it were simply a show of support between the families, then Yang Nianwouldn’t be so desperate to hush this matter up.
Or perhaps the relationship between the Yang family and Yan family just ran deeper compared to others.
That should explain why Yang Nianwas always sticking up forYan Wei.
