“Don’t move, Miss! Hang on, I’ll contact the best doctor in the city and have him come over to check on you. You’ll be just fine, I’ll make sure of it.”
Nie Yun turned to leave, butYao Tanggrabbed her arm and stopped her.
“It’s fine. You don’t have to do that.”
Her tone was light, almost lazy, as if she didn’t believe a word that the man had spoken. She didn’t appear daunted in the slightest.
Uncle Tian took her reaction as arrogance. He scoffed and sneered at her.
“You may not believe me because you’ve never heard of it before, but that doesn’t mean that such a drug doesn’t exist. You can act all high and might now, but by the time you feel its effects, it will be too late for you to do anything.”
Nie Yun grew even more anxious. If looks could kill, the glare he shotUncle Tianwould have maimed him on the spot.
Her team had already botched their mission to protect Yao Tangthree times in the past.
First, at the cinema, when a flower pot had almost done them in.
The second time, the young lady was publicly accused and was almost taken away by the police. They were just downstairs at the time; they should have rushed to her side at the smallest sight of trouble.
The third time was the worst—they had flat-out lost Yao Tang. Fortunately, the young lady had returned safe and sound.
And so, they made sure they didn’t make any blunder today. They used everything they had learned in training and dealt with Uncle Tian’s subordinates quickly and efficiently.
They just never expected that a poison would factor into the equation.
What was more, they had no way of knowing whether Uncle Tian’s words were to be trusted or not.
As for the man, he simply thought that Yao Tangmust be courting death.
He silently counted the seconds, waiting for the time when she would be groveling at his feet, begging for the antidote.
Soon, however, a full three minutes had passed. Yao Tangwas still standing on her own two feet, looking relaxed and unbothered.
Even so, Uncle Tianquelled his apprehensions and told himself he might have counted too fast.
Another couple of minutes ticked by. Uncle felt it slip slowly by him, yet he could still no sign of the poison’s effects on Yao Tang’s body.
He stared up at her, his eyes wide with shock and confusion.
That pill had been personally refined by that person. How come it didn’t affect this girl at all?

“How can you still be standing there? You must be forcing yourself to act like you’re okay, right? I’m telling you, it’s no use! You will only feel worse later on!”
Against his better judgment, Uncle Tianconvinced himself thatYao Tangwas only putting up an act.
Once the poison finally took over, she would know the greatest agony in the world. She would definitely drop to her knees and beg for the antidote.

Uncle Tian’s eyes blazed with hatred, but there was nothing he could do. He could only pray for the poison to do its work so that he could escape this unfortunate predicament.
Another ten minutes passed. Yao Tangwas still fit as a fiddle.
Uncle Tian’s expression grew terrible. He couldn’t accept this!
It was true that he had never used the pill before, but its properties and effects had been recorded in their sacred books.
It should have worked just as the text had said!
Yao Tang loomed over him and asked, “Where did you get this pill?”
Uncle Tian’s head jerked up upon hearing her question, his mind barely able to keep up with what was happening.
Not only was she unharmed by the drug, but she was also trying to get information on its origins.
Under normal circumstances, she would have been mocking him for the failure of his poison.
