Ye Wanwan and her party arrived at the restaurant just after seven o’clock. The usually quiet and comfortable restaurant buzzed with additional excitement tonight, thanks to the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Yu Qiqi complimented as she ordered, "Thanks to Boss Ye for treating us to dinner. I wish Boss Ye good health and abundant wealth in the coming year!"
"Ah!" Ye Wanwan waved her hand and played along, "It’s nothing! If I make big money next year, I won’t forget about you guys!"
Tang Xiaorou and the other two couldn’t stop laughing at the side.
Once they had ordered, the waiter left, making a point before he did to let them know that because of the New Year’s Eve, the restaurant was busier than usual and that their dishes might take longer to arrive, asking for their patience.
Everyone understood, of course, so by the time they finished eating, it was already past nine, nearing ten o’clock.
However, since Ye Wanwan had reserved a private booth at Spacebar in advance, she wasn’t worried about arriving late and not having a place to sit.
As they were tidying up and leaving the restaurant, Ye Wanwan saw Xun Lehan and a few of her girlfriends walking toward them from the opposite corridor. It looked like they, too, had finished eating and were preparing to leave.
Xun Lehan clearly saw Ye Wanwan, too. Although she had been chatting and laughing with her companions, she straightened up and puffed out her chest the moment she spotted Ye Wanwan, ready for a clash at any moment.
Ye Wanwan couldn’t help but laugh at this childish display.
When both parties reached the corner, they naturally stopped.
Yu Qiqi, noticing the encounter, asked Ye Wanwan in a low voice at her side, "What’s going on? Looking for trouble?"
"It’s nothing." Ye Wanwan shook her head. Xun Lehan was always looking to pick a fight, as she had been for so many years.
As expected, just as Ye Wanwan finished speaking, Xun Lehan’s voice came, dripping with sarcasm, "Wanwan, you’re also dining here?"
"Why can’t I come to a restaurant that’s not yours?" Ye Wanwan retorted.
Xun Lehan shrugged, "Of course you can come. I just thought you’d be spending New Year’s with your family’s Shen Yi, so I didn’t invite you."
"Had I known Shen Yi didn’t want to spend it with you, I would’ve invited you to join us."
Ye Wanwan opened her mouth to respond, but Xun Lehan quickly continued before she could, "I mean, come on. You insisted on marrying Shen Yi, and while you did get married, what good has it done you?"
"He won’t even spend New Year’s with you; it’s clear he has no feelings for you."
"Poor Wanwan, you’re really pitiful!"
"Pitiful?" Ye Wanwan scoffed. Only the old Ye Wan would have gotten upset over Xun Lehan’s words; she certainly wouldn’t anymore.
With her arms folded across her chest, Ye Wanwan looked at Xun Lehan very haughtily and said, "Xu Chenfeng has been avoiding you for three years and won’t even come back to the country. Now tell me, who’s the pitiful one?"
"What nonsense are you spouting!" Upon hearing the name Xu Chenfeng, Xun Lehan instantly flew off the handle, glaring at Ye Wanwan with fury.
"Cough cough cough cough!"
Seeing Xun Lehan getting angry, Ye Wanwan laughed, squinting her eyes in a most self-satisfied manner, "I’m not talking nonsense. Xu Chenfeng was literally driven by you to a marriage proposal, so much so that he dares not even return to the country!"
"And you’re the one talking nonsense—Shen Yi adores me!"
"Ye Wanwan!" Xun Lehan bellowed, stomping her foot and looking as if she was about to rush forward to fight, but her friends held her back.
Ye Wanwan just stood there making faces at Xun Lehan, and then she heard a familiar voice, one that was indulgent yet exasperated, call out, "Wanwan."
