"I spoke with Oscar Miller."
Carson Flores had only been in the office for a short while when he received the message from Shirley Miller.
Carson Flores, "What did he say?"
Shirley Miller, "He was surprised and mocked me for wanting to sell the only inheritance my father left me. I asked him if he wanted it, and he said he’d consider it."
Carson Flores, "The shares you hold are only 25%, not enough to gain control. I suppose he wouldn’t be that interested."
Shirley Miller, "He is interested. He just wants to drive the price down. After all, the Miller Group has a good development prospect, and with the acquisition of the pharmaceutical factory in Seashore, owning shares would guarantee a good profit. If he really doesn’t want to, he can sell them and make a large sum. Who would complain about having too much money?"
Carson Flores, "That’s true, money doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket, and 25% of the Miller Group’s shares are certainly not cheap."
Shirley Miller, "Let’s just wait. Before this matter is settled, I doubt he’ll target me or the Miller Group anymore."
Carson Flores, "Alright, if that’s the case, aren’t we standing guard for the last shift now?"
Shirley Miller, "It’s not like you care. You’ve been lying there like a salted fish."
Carson Flores, "True. Since the commission from before was also distributed, I really don’t care."
Leaning back in his chair, Carson Flores thought it over. He felt that the possibility of Oscar Miller making a normal offer to buy was low. Oscar would either bargain or take unconventional methods against Shirley Miller.
A guy like Oscar Miller paying full price? That would be surprising.
During lunch, Carson Flores received a call from Julia Howell.
Over the phone, Julia Howell reported to Carson Flores the follow-up of the whole incident and hoped to invite him to express her gratitude, but he politely declined.
Helping the Howell Family eliminate the Browning Family was due to several reasons—it just happened so. Carson Flores had no great desire to deepen his association with the Howell Family.
For him, Polgel was merely a brief stop in his life’s journey.
In the afternoon, Carson Flores received consecutive calls from Leonard Reid and Samantha Tate, both with the same purpose.
Westley Reid hosted a banquet and invited Carson Flores to attend; Samantha Tate called to inform Carson Flores that the Gilliam Family would also be among the guests and hoped he would accompany her.
Carson Flores agreed.
If Shirley Miller really sold the shares, then she would leave Polgel. He would have acquired the Jade Pendant and would also leave. That time wouldn’t be too long; he needed to make time for Samantha Tate and then clear everything up with her.
Carson Flores went home, changed into formal attire, and then drove to the hotel where the banquet was being held.
Last time, Carson Flores went to treat someone and wasn’t a guest, so he dressed casually. Today, as Leonard Reid’s formally invited guest, and as Samantha Tate’s boyfriend, he couldn’t very well show up in a t-shirt and jeans and steal the spotlight.
At the hotel, Leonard Reid was engaged in conversation with a group of guests when his secretary came over and whispered a few words in his ear.
Leonard Reid’s eyes sparkled slightly, "A friend has arrived; I’ll go greet them. Excuse me."
After Leonard Reid left, everyone’s gaze turned toward the entrance, filled with curiosity.
Who could make Leonard Reid personally greet them?
At the entrance of the banquet hall, Oscar Miller, handsome and with an extraordinary temperament, walked in, followed closely by Eva Garber, dressed in a small suit and outfitted like a secretary.
Leonard Reid approached with a smile, "Young Master Miller, welcome, welcome."
Oscar Miller extended his hand to Leonard Reid, "Mr. Reid, I’ve long heard of you. It’s presumptuous of me to come without an invitation. I hope you’ll forgive me."
The two exchanged pleasantries as the surrounding guests buzzed with discussion.
"Young Master Miller? Who is that?"
"Is he the one from the Miller Family in Seashore mentioned earlier?"
"The son of the Miller Family head. If nothing else, he’s the future head of the Miller Family, no wonder Leonard Reid personally welcomed him."
"Leonard Reid is the Real Estate King in this province. His ranking is high even on a national level, but the Miller Family in Seashore has a considerable influence in the surrounding regions. To put it simply, they are both wealthy and powerful; one has money, and the other has both money and power..."
Being the top-ranked real estate tycoon in the province, and among the top nationwide, of course, Leonard Reid was aware of the Miller Family. He even had several encounters with the Miller Family head, Knox Miller, though they didn’t have any personal relations.
He didn’t understand why Oscar Miller came of his own accord, but as Knox Miller’s son and the future heir of the Miller Family, Leonard Reid had to show proper deference no matter what.
Even if they weren’t friends, he couldn’t afford to be cool and thus provoke dissatisfaction, which could turn into enmity.
The Miller Family was a family of cultivators with formidable strength, which Leonard Reid was well aware of. However, that also meant he was wary of the Miller Family and similar entities, unsure if at some moment they might suddenly drop their masquerade and turn into a fierce wolf, leaving not even bones after devouring him.
While Leonard Reid was speaking with Oscar Miller, Adan Gilliam and his wife appeared at the entrance, followed by Carson Flores and Samantha Tate.
Leonard Reid, seeing Carson Flores, brightened up and, after quickly apologizing to Oscar Miller, went to meet them.
"Young Gilliam, you’re here."
Adan Gilliam was flattered. Leonard Reid calling him Young Gilliam?
In an instant, Adan Gilliam came back to his senses realizing that Leonard Reid’s gesture was only because Carson Flores had so much face; he was simply basking in the reflected glory.
