Davis Bernard’s face changed and he glared at Carson Flores.
"You little prick, you think you can stand out and just go nuts?"
Young people don’t know the severity of the sky and the depth of the earth; they’re all local thugs, even gangs. If you mess with them, they’ll beat you to death!
"Ms. Miller, I’ll go take a look."
Shirley Miller said in a deep voice, "Let’s go together!"
Davis Bernard was startled for a moment, then quickly waved his hand to gather all the other security guards: "Protect Ms. Miller well."
Eithan Fuentes and others also followed towards the door; they wanted to see how Shirley Miller would deal with the thugs at the door.
Will she end up crying out of anger?
Davis Bernard walked briskly in front, while quietly scolding in a low voice, "You, what are you sticking your nose out for? These people are local thugs, with gangs and all; they’re not to be provoked. Are you looking to just work your job, live your life, or are you trying to get yourself killed here?"
Carson Flores replied in a low voice, "If I’ve taken the boss’s money, I should do the job, right?"
"We’re here to work, not to sell our lives. Doing our best is enough, but those people, they’re not to be messed with."
Davis Bernard ordered, "Don’t act impulsively later; I’ll go and negotiate. If it works, good; if not, let’s not push it, otherwise, if trouble arises, it’s easy to get beaten up with a black stick out there."
Carson Flores asked in a low voice, "These people are so arrogant, doesn’t the security team care at all?"
Davis Bernard glared at Carson Flores, "How can they care? These guys aren’t carrying any lethal weapons, just sticks. They can’t just arrest them for that right? Even if they’re arrested, they’ll be let go soon enough. These people are ruffians and scoundrels; they have their ways to trouble you. Using the officials is basically not the way to deal with them."
Carson Flores frowned, "Is the investment environment here so bad? Then won’t these thugs be lawless?"
Davis Bernard shook his head, "Snakes have snake paths, rats have rat paths, and thugs have people who can restrain them. Usually, local enterprises or big bosses will give some money, whether it’s called protection money or making friends, it’s not much for a business, and they can even find some help in case of trouble."
"Ms. Miller is new here and doesn’t know the ins and outs. It’s difficult for her to work things out using official channels unless she has a strong connection above, to warn or deal with these gang leaders using official means, perhaps that might work."
As they spoke, everyone arrived at the door, and Davis Bernard warned again, "Follow my command, don’t spout nonsense."
Carson Flores readily agreed, "Alright!"
Davis Bernard approached the truck at the door and patted the hood, "Who’s in charge here?"
A man in his thirties, wearing a black T-shirt, with tattooed arms, leaned on a flamboyantly modified huge motorcycle and said coldly, "Whatever you have to say, speak to me."
Davis Bernard stepped out, frowning and said, "Harry Reid, Mr. Chen had a good relationship with Boss Liao before, and everyone was at peace. Why have you suddenly come to stir trouble, what’s this about?"
Harry Reid chuckled, "Mr. Chen was generous, so naturally, Boss Liao showed him respect. But now Mr. Chen is gone, and that respect doesn’t need to be maintained. I heard the pharmaceutical factory was sold, and the new boss has also arrived. Boss Liao sent me to offer congratulations and, by the way, to get acquainted."
Davis Bernard said sternly, "Even if you want to get acquainted, this isn’t how you do it. Move your truck first, disperse your men, and I’ll take you to meet the boss."
Harry Reid didn’t budge, his eyes landing on Shirley Miller not far behind, his eyes lit up, "This beautiful lady must be the new boss of the pharmaceutical factory, right?"
Shirley Miller didn’t respond to him.
Shirley Miller was well aware that whatever she said wouldn’t intimidate a bunch of thugs; it would only lead to mockery. Better to just watch silently.
If Davis Bernard can’t handle it, there’s still Carson Flores.
Desperate felons with guns and knives couldn’t even handle Carson Flores, let alone these jumping clowns with sticks.
Having experienced that bloody life-and-death incident, Shirley Miller wasn’t scared of these thugs at all, and even found them too insignificant.
Shirley Miller’s cold gaze and indifferent attitude pierced Harry Reid’s pride.
All his boys were watching; it was so embarrassing.
Davis Bernard said sternly, "This is our boss, Ms. Miller... Harry Reid, give us some face, move your truck and disperse your people, we’ll talk with Boss Liao later on."
Harry Reid looked at Davis Bernard with sarcasm, "Face? A stinking security guard, a gatekeeper, your face isn’t that big. Don’t embarrass yourself."
Davis Bernard’s face turned red instantly.
This is too much disrespect.
"Harry Reid, you’re just a lackey for Boss Liao, what are you acting big for? Can you even make decisions on this?"
The smug look on Harry Reid’s face disappeared, his complexion dropping instantly.
"Seems like you think you’re somebody just because we call you Captain Li in normal times. Fine, today let’s see how much you weigh," Harry Reid taunted.
Davis Bernard also got angry, "Come on then, if you’re capable, fight me one-on-one. Let’s see how tough you are!"
Carson Flores was shocked.
Wasn’t he told to avoid conflict?
Hadn’t he said these men were not to be provoked?
Why, after just a couple of words, did he end up confronting them directly?
Is this the fiery temper of a soldier?
Carson Flores quickly grabbed hold of Davis Bernard, smiling, "It’s been a while since I’ve been in a fight, I’m getting itchy. Officer, you take a break. I’ll go first!"
