Chapter 58: Chapter 58: The Big Man Likes Candy
The young wife’s eyes were practically shining as she looked at the little wonton stall, clearly wanting to try some. After all, they had just sold their hunted game and were not without money. If the young wife really wanted to eat, he planned to accompany her for a bowl.
However, Yunjin shook her head, “Don’t we need to go to the traditional medicine shop? Let’s continue on our way!”
“Yun’er, you’re not eating wontons?” Gu Ya looked at the young wife with puzzlement, as she had just seemed so keen on eating them.
As they walked, Yunjin said, “It won’t be too late to eat after we finish at the medicine shop!” In reality, Yunjin had no intention of eating. The wontons smelled delicious, but she wasn’t hungry at the moment!
Why eat if you’re not hungry?
Yunjin had never been in the habit of eating wontons when she wasn’t hungry.
And so, Yunjin and Gu Ya made their way to the traditional medicine shop. It was only when Gu Ya mentioned repaying a debt that Yunjin learned he still owed the doctor for the medicine prescribed for her last time.
She recalled waking up to the doctor’s treatment. After which, Gu Ya had summoned the doctor outside, apparently to discuss something that seemed quite important.
Now, it seemed likely that Gu Ya had been negotiating the debt with the doctor.
Yunjin also felt that a debt owed should be repaid. When Gu Ya said he was going to repay it, Yunjin, not knowing the total amount owed to the doctor, handed back the three taels of silver Gu Ya had given her. Gu Ya only accepted two taels from Yunjin’s hand, “Yun’er, this much is enough. Keep the remaining tael for yourself.”
Gu Ya went into the medicine shop while Yunjin waited outside, this time anticipating a longer wait for his return.
As soon as Gu Ya reappeared, Yunjin approached him, “Husband, have you paid off the debt?”
“Yun’er, where do you want to go? I’ll accompany you!” Instead of answering the young wife’s question, Gu Ya asked where she wanted to visit. Having repaid the debt, there was nothing else he needed to do, and this was his first time accompanying the young wife to the market. Gu Ya could tell that she was in good spirits.
He was now planning to spend the rest of the time enjoying a leisurely stroll around the market with the young wife.
Yunjin’s main reason for visiting the market was to see what an ancient market was like—whether it was bustling or not. She didn’t have any particular shops in mind to visit or items she wanted to buy. When Gu Ya asked where she wanted to go, Yunjin hadn’t thought of any specific place.
“Do you still want to eat wontons? I’ll take you to eat,” Gu Ya suggested, remembering the young wife’s earlier desire for wontons. Yunjin shook her head, “No, thanks! I’m not hungry!”
After a moment of thought, Gu Ya suggested to Yunjin, “Let’s go! I’ll take you to a place!”
“Where?” His serious demeanor piqued Yunjin’s curiosity about the destination he had in mind. Gu Ya did not reveal where they were headed but merely glanced at her and said, “You’ll see when we get there!”
Yunjin followed behind Gu Ya, and after a short walk, he stopped in front of a small shop selling sweets and preserved fruits. She had anticipated he would take her somewhere extraordinary.
Instead, she hadn’t expected Gu Ya to bring her to a candy shop!
“Is this the place you wanted to take me?” Yunjin cautiously asked Gu Ya.
Gu Ya did not deny it, “Let’s go in and take a look!”
Yunjin was baffled as she stared at Gu Ya.
Gu Ya, a grown man, actually loved sweets?
