Chapter 59: Chapter 59 It’s Her Brother
Gu Ya took a few steps, and seeing that his little wife hadn’t followed, stopped to glance back at Su Yunjin still behind him, “Yunjin, what are you daydreaming about? Aren’t you coming in?”
“Oh!” Su Yunjin snapped back to reality and followed Gu Ya inside.
To be honest, Su Yunjin still found it all very fantastical!
She just couldn’t understand how Gu Ya, a grown man, could have a sweet tooth!
Wasn’t that utterly unbelievable?
Gu Ya didn’t notice the expression on his little wife’s face and headed straight for the counter. At that moment, a young couple was buying sweets nearby. The woman, heavily pregnant, was being treated with utmost gentleness and consideration by the man. The pair smiled and laughed together from time to time, clearly a couple very much in love.
Perhaps craving sour things because of her pregnancy, Su Yunjin watched as the woman bought quite a lot of sour fruit preserves. The shopkeeper packed the preserves for the woman, and the man asked her, “Is there anything else you want to eat? Should we buy some more sweets to take home?”
“Husband, let’s get some osmanthus and sesame candies! I just love those two,” the woman said shyly to her man, appearing even more languid and enchanting with her pregnancy.
The man doted on his wife. Whatever she wanted, he turned to the shopkeeper to buy, “My wife also wants sesame powder and osmanthus candy; shopkeeper, please pack these two sweets for me as well.”
“All right, young master, just a moment!” the shopkeeper efficiently wrapped up the sesame candy and osmanthus candy into two packages. After buying the sweets and preserves and paying the shopkeeper, the man carefully escorted the woman out of the shop, “Be careful, wife, let your husband support you.”
“Enough! I’m not a child, why must you fuss so much?” the woman chided him playfully as they left together, clearly delighted in her heart.
After seeing off the young couple, the shopkeeper turned to Gu Ya and Su Yunjin, “Young master, may I ask what the two of you would like to buy?”
Gu Ya suddenly turned to Su Yunjin and asked her, “Yunjin, see if there’s anything you like?”
“Me?” Su Yunjin looked over the sweets and pastries for sale in the shop and, finding nothing of interest, shook her head, “I don’t want any!”
“You don’t like these?” Gu Ya arched an eyebrow at his little wife. These sweet and rich treats were supposed to be things women enjoyed. Was it really possible that his little wife didn’t?
Nonchalant, Su Yunjin replied, “Is it strange that I don’t like them?”
“…” It was strange indeed! But Gu Ya didn’t voice his thoughts.
The shopkeeper, a savvy businessman, smiled at Su Yunjin and recommended, “Miss, look how good your elder brother is to you, bringing you to buy sweets. Everything sold in this uncle’s shop is top-notch, far better than those little street stalls. Miss, why don’t you let your elder brother buy you a few snacks to try?”
Su Yunjin hadn’t expected the shopkeeper to mistake Gu Ya for her brother.
Instinctively, she started to correct him, but upon seeing the dark look on Gu Ya’s face, she quickly changed her mind and smiled at the sweet-seller, “Uncle, you’re right, since my brother has been so kind as to bring me to buy sweets, I should pick a couple to try at home! Otherwise, wouldn’t I be taking his kindness for granted?”
As Su Yunjin spoke, she emphasized the word “brother” heavily, and, sure enough, she noticed that Gu Ya’s already dark expression grew even gloomier.
Keeping her amusement to herself, Su Yunjin was suddenly met with Gu Ya’s gaze as he turned to her. Each word he spoke seemed to be squeezed out from between clenched teeth.
“Yunjin, am I your ‘brother’?”
