The Mute Wife Who Brings Prosperity Chapter 104

Song Wei walked up to Wen Wan, his gaze softened with a gentle smile, his voice lower and mellower than when he taught the students earlier, "Didn’t I tell you to wait for me at home? Why did you come here?"

Meeting the man’s gaze, Wen Wan smiled and pointed to the bamboo basket in the crook of her arm.

She had waited a long time, and if they didn’t eat soon, the food would get cold.

Song Wei asked her, "Do you want to go in and sit?"

Wen Wan shook her head.

She couldn’t communicate with Aunt Xie’s family at all, going in would be pointless, and it would save them the trouble of having to sit with her doing nothing.

Song Wei understood, took the bamboo basket from her hand, and added, "It’s windy by the river, not too warm, and there’s shade from the trees; let’s go there."

Wen Wan nodded and followed him towards home. When they reached the riverside, Song Wei chose a clean grassy spot where they could sit and enjoy the shade, before taking out the food from the basket.

With shade overhead and a cool river breeze, this place was indeed pleasantly comfortable.

Noticing there was only one set of chopsticks and bowl, Song Wei looked at Wen Wan, who was sitting opposite him, "Have you already eaten?"

Wen Wan smiled; the lunch was specially made for him, of course she had already eaten at home.

Seeing her reaction, Song Wei got his answer and, as he picked up the small bowl, he suddenly asked, "When you met Hao Yun, did you have any bad premonitions?"

Wen Wan thought carefully and truly had none; if she had a premonition, she certainly wouldn’t wait overnight without telling her husband.

Seeing her shake her head, Song Wei felt slightly relieved, "Later we’ll be going to the county; it would be nice if everything goes smoothly."

Wen Wan was quite indifferent about it.

A couple of days ago, she read a book that said something like, "When soldiers come, fight with generals; when water rises, use earth to block it."

Her husband’s fate couldn’t be changed, but they couldn’t just stay cooped up at home because of bad luck.

Her husband is someone destined to enter officialdom, and will face many people and matters every day; the current minor troubles are nothing compared to what’s to come. If he can’t even overcome the present obstacles, how can he speak of ideals and aspirations?

Therefore, even though her husband was born with an unlucky fate, they accept it. But as long as she’s around, she will never let him be bullied by heaven without reason.

After Song Wei finished eating, Wen Wan returned the bamboo basket home, and the couple prepared to go to the county.

Actually, there wasn’t much to do; the weather was just getting hot, and Wen Wan wanted to buy some thin fabrics to make clothes for the family.

Originally, Wen Wan thought it would be enough to have her sister-in-law accompany her, and her husband could stay home to study more in preparation for the courtyard exam.

Song Wei didn’t agree and insisted on accompanying her personally. While she changed clothes and did her hair, he hugged her from behind and whispered, "I promised to take care of you for a lifetime, even one day less would be a breach of contract."

The low, soft voice was enough to make one’s bones melt.

Wen Wan turned and looked at him, asking whom he had promised.

Song Wei’s expression didn’t change much, "You forgot? On the day of the wedding, when I bid farewell to your father, I made the promise."

Wen Wan found it amusing; which groom wouldn’t say some ceremonial words when fetching the bride? If one dared to say nothing, it would be a blessing if the father-in-law didn’t break his legs; how could he let you grandly marry his daughter?

Song Wei lowered his eyes, looking at the girl in his arms.

Actually, the reason she always persuaded him to take the imperial exams, and why he didn’t agree, wasn’t just because of brother and sister-in-law, there was another reason—Lu Fanghua.

That woman shrouded in mystery, she is Wanwan’s biological mother, what kind of past and unspoken hardship she had, no one knew, but it was definitely not simple.

He feared that if he truly succeeded in the exams and took Wanwan to the Capital, it might drag her into too much trouble, causing her misery.
