After saying this, Chen Hu decisively hung up the call, leaving Lin Zhigang alone, sitting amidst the ruins.
He sat stunned for a long while, and, after coming to his senses, anxiously picked up his phone and quickly called his father’s mobile number.
However, Chen Hu didn’t pick up Lin Zhigang’s calls again, no matter how many times Zhigang called; the line was busy without exception.
It seemed Chen Hu was forcing Lin Zhigang into a choice.
Zhigang sat in the ruins, unsure how long it had been.
It might have been just a moment, or several hours could have passed.
When Hua Mi saw Lin Zhigang again, his hair had already turned gray.
Hua Mi, surprised, looked at him and asked uncertainly,
“What happened to you? Did you overexert your brain, or did you trigger some superpower?”
Sitting amidst the ruins, Lin Zhigang looked up with eyes that weren’t very clear, gazing in Hua Mi’s direction; his pupils couldn’t focus,
and he looked at Hua Mi intently for a long while before seemingly regaining his senses, and said vaguely,
Hua Mi slightly narrowed her eyes, observing the odd-looking Lin Zhigang. She initially wanted to say something but ended up saying nothing.
Hua Mi just visually inspected the small safe zone that Zhigang had made in the ruins.
Looking at her watch, she said to Lin Zhigang,
“I only have half the night. My husband keeps a close watch on me; let’s quickly make a break for it.”
“Let’s talk more when we reach the next safe zone.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than did Hua Mi open the electric fence of the ruins’ safe zone, came out from the grid, and made her way outward, battling her way through.
Behind her, Lin Zhigang collected himself, his face pale as he followed Hua Mi out, fighting alongside her.
Midway, Lin Zhigang inquired Hua Mi,
“What about the supplies you left in the ruins?”

Thus, there were still plenty of supplies left in that small safe zone in the ruins.
Hua Mi, leading the way and cutting down zombies, occasionally responded to Lin Zhigang as she did so,
“Leave them there. Maybe someone desperately wanting to survive will come across the ruins.”
“They’ll find a moment’s respite in the safe zone you made with your own hands.”
“The supplies you left might even save their lives.”
Following behind Hua Mi, Lin Zhigang stopped his zombie-killing efforts.
He watched Hua Mi’s back intently, perhaps touched by her words just spoken.
He suddenly realized that Hua Mi wasn’t as heartless and ruthless as everyone said.
She also had her magnanimous side; it’s just that her kind of magnanimity, in a world filled with darkness and baseness, seemed so secretive.
After four hours of fighting with Hua Mi until they reached another broken-down town,
she found a hidden piece of the ruins.
Pointing toward an inconspicuous, narrow, dark crevice amidst the building’s wreckage, Hua Mi said to Lin Zhigang,
“Based on my experience, there should be a safe zone inside. Go in first and check if there’s any danger.”
