The Prime Minister's Darling Chapter 273

Chapter 273: 155 Care (Second Update)_2

However, he rose from his slumber once again.

In a delirious fever, his eyes wide open and seemingly full of spirit, he was in a state hardly distinguishable from drunkenness.

At first, he began reciting Tang poetry, one after another. He then switched to speaking in the dialect of Chen Country, persuasively uttering a flurry of words with a uniquely intense expression.

After the dialect of Chen Country, he began to transition into the dialect of Liang Country.

Even some of the phrases that Xiao Liulang had mentioned offhand, which weren’t considered important and were assumed he had not learned, were fluently articulated by him.

Then came a few phrases in the dialect of Jin Country.

The languages of Yan Country and the Turkic tribes are something Xiao Liulang hasn’t taught him yet.

Xiao Liulang, moved by curiosity, engaged him in a few phrases of several languages.

On normal days, Xiao Liulang would test him this way. He had not been studying for long, and it generally took him some time to produce the answers.

Moreover, since he was learning multiple languages, he would sometimes confuse his answers.

However, tonight, Xiao Liulang shifted seamlessly between four different languages, and he answered each question flawlessly.

…It’s rather baffling indeed.

Finally, he even started reciting Buddhist Scriptures in Sanskrit.

Not just that, he also insisted on wearing his mini robes, and on using his little wooden percussion instrument.

Gu Jiao went to fetch all his things.

Fifteen minutes later.

The two of them watched the small figure, sitting seriously on the bedchamber, hitting the small wooden percussion instrument, turning the small Buddha Beads, and chanting Buddhist Scriptures, they were both momentarily speechless.

But that was not the scariest part.

While drumming, the little monk experienced an itch on his scalp, he raised his hand and scratched it, grabbing a handful of hair.

He was instantly stunned: “Master, how come I have hair? I can’t be a monk anymore! Quick, shave my head! I want my head shaved!”

His crying intensified, and it was unstoppable.

So Gu Jiao had to allow his “temporary master” Xiao Liulang to bring in a razor, and shave off the hair that had grown for half a year.

The next day, the little monk woke up, not recalling anything from last night.

He didn’t realise his hair was gone, either.

Gu Yan, who didn’t have to receive an injection yesterday and seemed triumphant, couldn’t revel today.

He looked even more dispirited than the little monk, with an unrelenting cough, and he threw up all the medicine he was fed.

The three children falling ill at once made Gu Jiao experience what it felt like to be extremely anxious and worried.

The little monk cried out again.

Gu Jiao walked inside: “Don’t scratch, you’ll scar.”

The little monk was frantic: “But I can’t stand it anymore!”

Gu Jiao had no choice but to apply some cooling ointment to relieve his itch.

Gu Changqing hadn’t passed by Guozijian for quite some time. Once he learned of Gu Jiao and Gu Yan’s identities, he intentionally avoided this area, even if it meant taking a detour.

To his own surprise, he found himself here today.

The sound of horse hooves was light, not alarming anyone.

He convinced himself that he was just passing by, no different from the previous times.

He gripped the reins tightly and without any expression crossed the entrance, when he suddenly heard a low, hacking cough.

A subtle change flashed in his eyes and he instinctively reined in his horse.

The horse was walking slowly and it stopped after one gentle pull.

The cough was rapid and painful, pulling his brows together into a frown.

He hesitated for a moment, but eventually dismounted.

As he reached the door, about to knock, he paused, feeling it inappropriate.

How could the grievances of over a decade be erased by just one or two interactions? They were supposed to be familiar strangers.

Just as he turned to leave, the courtyard door creaked open.

The door was opened by the little monk.

The little monk was feeling much better that day, except for the intolerable itching. But Jiaojiao had strictly forbidden him from scratching, so he planned to escape outside and scratch.

However, he was caught red-handed by Big Brother.

The little monk guiltily hid his little hands behind his back.

He was wearing a hat that resembled a tiger’s head, Gu Changqing did not notice his bald head.

Gu Changqing eyed him suspiciously: “Where were you going?”

“I…” The little monk’s eyes darted around, “Just getting some fresh air?”

Gu Changqing’s gaze fell on his face covered with chickenpox: “Is it suitable to go out in the wind after developing chickenpox? Does your sister know?”

The little monk gestured a zipper across his mouth.

Gu Changqing had no doubt if he left right now, the little fellow would run out instantly.

He had to get him safely back to her.

Not because she is my sister, but because it’s my responsibility.

Holding the little monk’s hand, Gu Changqing escorted him back to the courtyard.

Gu Jiao was currently in the kitchen preparing a meal.

“He was trying to run away.” Gu Changqing brought the little monk into the kitchen.

The chronically tattling little monk was finally being tattled on.

Indeed, what goes around, comes around.

The little monk guiltily drooped his little head.

Gu Jiao glanced at the little monk and then at Gu Changqing, her expression calm: “Thank you.”

She didn’t elaborate further.

The three people in the room were silent.

The little monk was feeling guilty, but he didn’t understand why the two adults were silent.

“Who’s been coughing?” Gu Changqing heard the sound of coughing again.

“It’s Gu Yan,” said Gu Jiao. “He’s contracted chickenpox.”

Chickenpox was not a minor illness, especially for Gu Yan who also had a heart condition. Gu Changqing’s brows furrowed. He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped, feeling as though he was not in a place to do so.

“Have you contracted chickenpox before?” Gu Jiao asked.

“Yes,” Gu Changqing replied.

Gu Jiao turned to the little monk: “Jing Kong, take your big brother to see Brother Yan.”

Great, she no longer has to face the storm here!

Holding onto Gu Changqing’s hand, the little monk escorted him to Gu Yan’s room.

Gu Yan refused to take his medicine properly. He would take a sip and spit out a sip, soiling his entire body.

Xiao Liulang has never taken care of a younger brother so big before, and to tell the truth, he had no experience in it.

Moreover, Gu Yan was not as robust as the little monk who could handle just about anything. A momentary lapse in attention, and Xiao Liulang feared he might make a grave mistake.

“Hand him over to me.”

The sudden voice at the door was Gu Changqing’s.

Xiao Liulang turned his head, looking guardedly at Gu Changqing. Seeing the little monk holding his hand, the wariness in his eyes dissipated.

Little monk said, “Jiaojiao told me to bring Big Brother over!”

Hearing the little monk say that, Xiao Liulang was no longer doubtful. He stood up, leaning on his crutch, and walked out of the room with the little monk.

Gu Changqing looked back at Xiao Liulang.

He had never met Xiao Liulang, but he found him strangely familiar.

Also, Xiao Liulang’s earlier vigilance was not something a simple scholar should possess.

This sister of his… who had she married exactly?

No, she was not his sister!
