Mia Ginger stayed at Cloudy Capital for a week.
Her mood slowly calmed down.
She felt as though the month-long summer break had been a dream.
Anger and joy coexisted, the former from the Ginger Family, the latter from Koa Jackson. Cloudy Capital seemed like a place for healing, where every time, her bleeding wounds could always heal.
Camilia Davis, who had deceived her for over ten years, could be forgiven.
She is someone who is easily content, like the wild roses found everywhere in summer, able to thrive with just a little sunlight and dew, flourishing and strong.
"Mia, everything will get better."
Mia looked at the delicate girl in the mirror and said with a smile.
She turned around and went out.
Aunt Lee was cleaning in the living room, and when she saw Mia come out, she straightened up and said in surprise, "Going out at this time? The sun is the harshest around two o’clock."
"Yes," Mia pursed her lips and said, "I have something to do outside."
"Then bring an umbrella, or let Little Darcy drive you? Old Lewis went to the airport to pick up Koa." Aunt Lee spoke as she was about to find someone.
Koa Jackson had gone out of town two days ago for an academic seminar and would be back in the afternoon.
Mia was missing him a bit.
Realizing this, she hastily walked two steps to stop Aunt Lee and said with a smile, "No need, I’ll be back shortly, I can manage on my own."
"You can?" Aunt Lee stopped.
"I’m not a child," Mia shook her arm, her eyes filled with a bright smile, as if bathed in the spring breeze of March.
"Then be careful when you ride," Aunt Lee, always fond of her, instructed, "Come back early, I’ll make sweet and sour ribs for you in the afternoon."
"Got it." Mia waved her hand with a smile and went out the door.
It was the beginning of August, and the sun was bright and scorching.
She wasn’t in the habit of going out with an umbrella, so she reached to unzip her backpack and put on the hat she had bought earlier to shield herself from the sun.
Cloudy Capital is a top residential area with beautiful surroundings and few people.
The bus stop was too far away.
Mia waited outside the community for two minutes and took a taxi directly to the hospital.
It was Friday, and by three in the afternoon, there were fewer people in the hospital than usual. The scorching sun burned down, and there were hardly any people in the garden.
Mia walked through the shade and corridors to the ward.
Aunt Miller, the special nurse, was changing the bedsheets. Seeing Mia enter, she greeted with a smile, "Mia is here."
Mia craned her neck to look at the bathroom with confusion, "Did she go for a check-up?"
"No," Aunt Miller efficiently put on new sheets and tidied up while saying, "Two people came and said they’d go out together for a while."
"Two people?" Mia was taken aback, "Who are they?"
"I don’t know them either." Aunt Miller paused to look at her, thinking while saying, "They seemed like two quite cultured men."
"Men?" Mia was startled again.
"Yes, both wearing black suits in this hot summer," Aunt Miller seemed amused, pursing her lips, "They looked young too, in their twenties, are they your friends?"
Mia grew more puzzled, smiled, and turned to the hallway to make a call.
Just as she took out her phone, an incoming call arrived.
Mia hesitated for a moment before answering.
The voice of Aiden Jiang on the phone was as steady as usual, slightly deep but not lacking warmth, with a hint of imperceptible probing and appeasement.
Mia’s heart softened a little, and she murmured, "Dad."
