“President Zheng, did you seal the deal?” her assistant asked as she got in the car.
Zheng Hongxia was fuming. “What a goddamn joke of a school! Bunch of idiots!”
The assistant was stunned. “What happened? Didn’t go well?”
“They gave that location to a student for free!”
“No way. We came with money!”
“Exactly! Can you believe there are people these days who’d refuse money?!”
The assistant frowned in thought. “Could that student be Director Yan’s relative or something?”
Zheng Hongxia frowned slightly. “Is that even possible?”
“Think about it. Even if we took that money to rent the building, the payment wouldn’t go to Director Yan, it would go directly to the university.”
“Right, it obviously belongs to the school.”
“But what if that student is Yan Weimin’s relative? If he’s doing business, you think he wouldn’t give Yan a cut under the table?”
Zheng Hongxia suddenly came to a realization.

Just as I reached a preliminary rental agreement with the school, a student named Jiang (surname only) applied for the same location under the pretext of student entrepreneurship.
The teacher approved it without hesitation and gave him the spot I was going to rent!
