In a remote area in the south, Lin City, rows of soldiers clad in uniforms stood at attention. They had formed a square, and even more groups were running towards them from behind!
In front of the square formation stood a middle-aged man in casual clothes. His weather-beaten face hinted at a once handsome man. He was holding a walkie-talkie with reports fluttering in intermittently.
With the last group joining the formation, the middle-aged man looked at the men in front of him, armed to the teeth and as ferocious as tigers, a faint smile appeared on his face.
"Ahem, is everyone done with their tasks? All group leaders, step forward!"
At his command, from each row of the formation, a leader stepped forward and walked to the front of the middle-aged man.
"Have you all completed your tasks! Tell me!"
"Report! Completed!" Six people chorused back loudly.
"Deal with us as you please!"
The unyielding spirit of soldiers coagulated in their hearts. They answered without hesitation when this middle-aged man questioned them.
After hearing this, the man’s face darkened. He strode towards the leader standing at the edge of the six.
Slap! Slap! Slap! Slap! Slap! Slap!
He walked the entire route down, slapping each of them once. Looking at their defiant look, he opened his mouth and said, "What? You disagree?"
"Alright, alright! You disagree, don’t you? Tell me, what is our mission?"
"Clear the surrounding hazards! Establish a safety zone! Protect the people and the country!"
"Report! It is completed!"
"Wrong! We haven’t finished! There are still many zombies outside, and you tell me it’s done?"
"How many people are still suffering from those monsters? Our mission is far more than that! We must completely eliminate all the zombies. Only then have we truly completed our mission. I know many of you went soft on the mission because those creatures used to be human too. You believe they can turn back into humans again, but two days ago, I received news that the researchers investigating a cure have yet to find one. Now, the most important thing is to ensure the lives of the surviving humans! Their lives are our priority! Do you understand? Do you know how many were there when you set off and how many are left?] Only two came back from the Third Group! This goes to show how ruthless those monsters are! "Yes!" The six of them, along with everyone else behind, responded loudly. Despite that, their eyes were still filled with defiance when they looked at the middle-aged man.
For them, this middle-aged man was simply a powerless scientist. In the world where military prowess is revered, he was negligible!
The identity of a scientist indeed deserves respect, but abruptly parachuting in to manage them, they had countless objections in their hearts. But they had no choice. Who knew what kind of luck this man had? His strength and explosive power had surpassed the ordinary man, and just a few days ago, he demonstrated his enormous strength by lifting a car with a single hand in front of them!
There were many similar cases . Some people called these evolved people, while others called them new humans! The temporarily established national research team also temporarily had no reasonable explanation for the sudden increase in a regular person’s physical prowess, speed, and explosive power. They just had a guess.
The middle-aged man looked at the soldiers before him, understanding their sentiments. He continued, "I know you look down on me, thinking I’m merely a lucky devil and have no right to manage or educate you! But we all share the same goal! To put it bluntly, I won’t bother myself with your lives, so please, value your own!
After finishing his words, the middle-aged man turned around and left the field, entering an olive-green tent. Inside the tent, an officer in uniform looked at him and respectfully said, "How was it? Not bad?"
"Hmm." The middle-aged man replied, and then asked, "Where’s Divine Armor No.1?"
"It’s been repaired. It’s in the supply box!" The officer pointed to a blue box filled with a high-tech aura.
After nodding, the middle-aged man walked over, opened the box, took out a silvery white belt, and scrutinized it carefully. Once he saw no issues, he wore it around his waist. A series of screeches, like that from Transformers, rang out and short, sharp hooks extended from the belt, securing itself to his body.
The middle-aged man, satisfied, turned to the officer and asked, "When will the reinforcements arrive?"
"It’s going to take about a week. They are trying to clear a path between Yang City and Lin City. We heard that a Level 2 zombie appeared on their side, so their casualties are quite substantial!"
The middle-aged man frowned and said, "That’s too slow, I can’t wait! I want to see my daughter now! Even if she’s turned into a zombie, I want to see her!" He said, striding towards the outside of the safe zone.
"Ning Tianlang, where are you going?"
"To kill zombies!" Ning Tianlang replied without turning back.
"You go, I’ll stay here!"

Two voices echoed in a dim alley. Both were wearing dirty and messy military uniforms.
"Damn it, go! Go on!"
"Why? Zhang Long! Why do you get to stay here? If one of us is to die, it should be both of us!"
"Get lost! What bullshit brotherhood! Go! Now!" Zhang Long shouted hoarsely at Bai Qunchao in front of him, desperation apparent in his eyes.
"No, I won’t leave. If we leave, we leave together. Get up!" Bai Qunchao tried to pull Zhang Long’s arm to get him up.
"What the hell are you doing? Go, please go. I’m begging you. I’ve been bitten. It’s over for me. Please, get out of here. Don’t you want to see your parents? You have to live!" Zhang Long revealed his forearm; it bore a clear, bloody bite.
"What!" Bai Qunchao dullly looked at the wound on Zhang Long’s arm. "I..."
"What are you blanking out for? Go! I can’t go on, go now!"
"I... I won’t leave! We die together!"
"Get lost! If you die here, even in death, I won’t let you off! If you don’t leave now, we’re not brothers!"
