Sophie Smith hurriedly packed up the clothes Irene Morton had changed after falling into the water, ready to send them to the laundry.
As soon as Sophie walked out the door, Asher Land followed her from the suite.
"Why aren’t you keeping Irene company? She’ll be bored by herself."
Sophie knew that Asher Land also suspected her involvement in Irene’s fall into the water, and she was timidly afraid of his anger.
"Do me a favor." Asher Land stared into her eyes, remaining silent for a moment, seemingly watching her reaction.
What could she possibly do for him?
Sophie felt uncertain inside.
"Golden Era is hosting a party this Saturday, and I’m missing a female companion."
"Huh?" Sophie still didn’t understand what he was up to.
"I want you to attend with me."
"What’s with the ’huh’? I’m asking you to attend a party with me, not to keep me company in bed. Why such a scared expression?" Asher Land snorted coldly.
Being so arrogant even when asking for a favor, truly, Sophie had already made up her mind.
"I’m not interested in parties."
"You have to go whether you want to or not!"
"Then why bother asking me?"
"I wanted to know your opinion."
"My opinion is that I don’t want to go."
"Then keep your opinion to yourself."
Sophie rolled her eyes at him, knowing he was being unreasonable.
"President Land, can’t you stop putting me in a difficult position?" she sneered.
What did she mean by that? Did being Asher Land’s woman embarrass her?
"Sophie, do you have to make me angry to feel good?"
She wouldn’t dare make him angry. She’s not Irene Morton. If she made him angry, she would have to pay a price, and she certainly didn’t want to ask for trouble.
She was just wondering, if she attended the party, what identity would she go as?
Asher Land’s woman? Oh, no, more like a mistress. She didn’t want to be seen as merely his plaything in public.
"I have an engagement on Saturday. I think I won’t have time to attend the party."
Sophie tried to make her gaze appear very sincere, very earnest, not wanting Asher Land to misunderstand anything.
"You have no choice," Asher Land said with absolute certainty.
Sophie bit her lip, her heart filled with defeat.
"I know those attending the party will be high-profile figures of high society. Aren’t you worried that an actress like me will embarrass you?"
She changed her approach, hoping he would understand she wasn’t a suitable choice to accompany him to the party.
"Then you should be grateful to me; I’m boosting your status, right?"
Sophie found she had nothing in common with him and left him, walking straight ahead.
Asher Land revealed a triumphant smile and followed her with large strides.
His stride was larger than hers, so soon he walked ahead of her, but had to intentionally slow his pace. Their steps never aligned, which mildly irritated Asher Land, and he finally just took her hand.
The more Sophie struggled to break free from his hand, the tighter his grip became.
This woman had been by his side for so long and hadn’t learned a single skill to please him. She always rejected, rejected, and rejected him, whether it was her body or her heart, perpetually resisting his approach.
After a long struggle, Asher Land finally released her hand.
Sophie rubbed her wrist, reddened from his grip, and glared at him with annoyance.
"Asher Land, can’t you be gentle?"
