A strange man’s voice came from outside, saying, “Shao You, you are already surrounded. Now, raise your hands and surrender, release the hostage, and confess for a lenient treatment!”
The voice was full of authority, and it was not hard to tell that it likely belonged to someone on the side of justice.
Shen Heyu felt as though she had seen light in the darkness, and even though she was nearly unable to breathe in Shao You’s grasp, she wasn’t worried.
She remained quietly still, not wanting to provoke Shao You.
Right after the man finished speaking, there was a loud bang, and the room’s door was forcefully kicked open.
Shen Heyu looked toward the sound and saw the door completely destroyed with many people standing outside.
They were a swarm of figures, all dressed in uniforms of justice, holding their weapons steadily aimed directly at Shao You.
The leader, an older man, had a voice still resonant with strength and severity, “Shao You, put down the knife! Hand over the person! You can still be granted leniency!”
After he spoke, Shen Heyu saw another man step out from the group.
The man was handsome, dressed in a neat black suit, his hair combed back meticulously, standing silent amid the crowd.
His dark eyes were fixed on Shen Heyu, and in them, she read the gloom of a storm.
Amidst the raging storm, he stepped toward her.
Shao You, seeing Pei Yansi approaching without fear for his own life, grew more nervous, tightening his grip on the knife.
He glared at Pei Yansi, “Don’t fucking move! Or I’ll slash her!”
But Pei Yansi acted as if he hadn’t heard, continuing to stride toward them. With lightning-fast movements, he grabbed Shao You’s wrist and yanked him toward the police.
At the same time, gripping his wrist, he executed a 360-degree twist.
There was only a snap of breaking bones followed by Shao You’s scream, his Dagger fell to the ground, no longer able to hold onto Shen Heyu.
Seizing the opportunity, Shen Heyu quickly escaped from his grasp and ran straight to her distant daughter.
Pei Yansi stepped forward, grabbed Shao You’s wrist again, and pulled his hands behind his back, kicking him to the ground.
The police outside rushed in and quickly subdued him, handcuffing both his hands and feet.
Shao You still struggled unwillingly.
Someone slapped him and said coldly, “Stay still!”
Shao You then didn’t dare to move again.
The men pinned him down and took him outside.
Seeing this, Pei Yansi then walked over to Shen Heyu and her daughter in the corner.
Yuexue, upon seeing him, clung to him dependently. Shen Heyu, lacking the strength to hold her daughter, simply pushed the girl into his arms.
Unexpectedly, Pei Yansi’s usual demeanor changed; he simply held Yuexue, yet his gaze remained fixed on Shen Heyu, and he asked tenderly, “Are you alright?”
Shen Heyu was taken aback. It wasn’t that she hadn’t heard him treat her with tenderness before; in fact, he had been gentle with her recently.
But she hadn’t expected that when he first held their daughter, his entire focus seemed to be on her, as if holding his daughter was merely a necessary task.
However, in his heart, only Shen Heyu mattered.
Thinking of this, Shen Heyu didn’t show him a displeased face, but considering that these events were also inseparably linked to him, she merely nodded coldly.
Yuexue cried in Pei Yansi’s arms, accusing Shao You and the others.
Pei Yansi comforted Shen Heyu and their daughter, holding the girl with one hand while pulling Shen Heyu with the other, heading out of the room.
He never once looked at Bai Sheng’er throughout the entire incident.
Bai Sheng’er was blind and though she didn’t know what had happened, she could still make out that Shao You had been arrested.
She wasn’t going to get off easy herself.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before someone came up to take her away.
Bai Sheng’er could not resist, only following the person numbly.
Downstairs, she heard Shao You in the police car speaking to someone, “I don’t know anything, everything was instructed by Bai Sheng’er.”
Upon hearing these words, Bai Sheng’er stiffened like a statue.
She knew it—Shao You was never reliable. Otherwise, why would she have broken up with him after graduating college?
Now she had lost everything and implicated herself as well.
She bit her teeth hard and said, “Shao You, could you be any more shameless!”
Shao You hadn’t expected her to be right next to the car, let alone overhear what he had said.
He felt embarrassed for a moment, but then he thought about his own future.
After all, Bai Sheng’er had never really liked him; it was always about using each other, and now it was his turn to turn the tables. What was wrong with that?
So, he looked at her coldly, without saying a word.
Bai Sheng’er, seeing nothing, let herself be taken into the police car.
In the car on the other side, Shen Heyu had taken a seat in the back, Pei Yansi put his daughter down and reached out to pull her into his arms, examining her from left to right.
Yuexue sat beside them, still not understanding why her father was suddenly ignoring her.
Seeing her daughter’s confused eyes, Shen Heyu awkwardly nudged Pei Yansi, “Your daughter is still here.”
Pei Yansi gave a perfunctory reply, but he didn’t tend to his daughter and continued to keep his gaze locked on Shen Heyu. Seeing a red mark on her fair neck, his resentment grew even stronger.
“Don’t worry, I will make sure Shao You pays for this.”
Shen Heyu met his brooding eyes and was at a loss for words for a moment.
She rarely saw him so wholeheartedly protective of her.
But it seemed that every time she was in danger, Pei Yansi would arrive immediately.
And then he would rescue her without a second thought.
Pei Yansi didn’t know what she was thinking, just holding her in his arms, his tone was filled with self-reproach, “I know it’s my own arbitrary and fierce nature that has once again put you and our daughter in danger.”
Shen Heyu listened to his apology without any ripples in her heart.
She said gravely, “It wasn’t because of business, it was because of Bai Sheng’er. No wonder you were evasive when I asked about her whereabouts before.”
Pei Yansi furrowed his brows, not speaking a word, just holding her even tighter.
He was never good at expressing his emotions and his tight embrace now seemed more like an apology in action.
But Shen Heyu didn’t understand.
Zhao Jin drove slowly forward, and silence filled the car. Shen Heyu held her daughter in her arms to soothe her; the child, having been through this ordeal, was tired and soon fell asleep in her arms.
When the car stopped outside the Pei Mansion, Pei Yansi got out and took his daughter, saying to Shen Heyu, “You are very tired, go rest first, I’ll be right there.”
