The Ruanlin Family found skinning rabbits to be too bloody and sent Ruan Jiaojiao off, saying, “Sweetheart, a few more plums have ripened in the backyard. They’re just under the tree. Go and pick them with Xiaoxi, but remember to be careful and don’t climb up to pick them, alright?”
Ruan Jiaojiao didn’t want to be alone with the little antagonist at all. She pouted, wanting to refuse, because she wasn’t that eager for plums; she would rather sleep. But the little antagonist clearly didn’t intend to give her a chance to talk. As soon as the Ruanlin Family said go, he took the lead and headed to the backyard.
“Go on, go on,” the Ruanlin Family urged with a cheerful laugh, intentionally wanting her to get along well with Xiu Xi.
Ruan Jiaojiao had no choice but to head to the backyard, looking back every three steps.
The Ruanlin Family had enclosed the backyard where there was a small pond. A few large white ducks were raised in the pond and on the bank were the family’s chickens. Along the side of the back building, there was a simple wooden shed with two laying hens inside, as they avoided walking on that side per the Ruanlin Family’s prior instruction, in order not to disturb the nesting hens.
Passing the hen’s nest, there were plum and peach trees. The peaches were already fruiting, but they were no bigger than a fingernail and certainly inedible. The plum had fruited abundantly, blanketing the branches, several plums on the upper branches had reddened as had a few that faced the sun at the bottom.
Ruan Jiaojiao trotted over with her little short legs, huffing and puffing as she started picking. But she clearly wasn’t tall enough; even though the plum hung low, it was still out of her reach.
Ruan Jiaojiao tried jumping a few times but still couldn’t reach them, which left her feeling a bit frustrated.
She turned her head to look at the little antagonist, who was watching her. She pursed her lips and asked, “Do you have any ideas?”
The little antagonist looked at her for a few more seconds, and just when Ruan Jiaojiao was about to lose her patience, he suddenly walked away, heading to the back door. Ruan Jiaojiao furrowed her little brows and watched him, not understanding why he was leaving.
Xiu Xi wasn’t leaving but went to the side of the back door, where there was a stick that seemed to be intentionally placed there by the Ruanlin Family.
Right, if she couldn’t reach, she could use a stick to knock them down!
Ruan Jiaojiao smacked her little head and felt her IQ had dropped since she became human.
Xiu Xi brought the stick over and effortlessly knocked down the plums. Ruan Jiaojiao claimed not to crave them, but her actions were particularly honest as she smiled and ran over to pick them up.
There were a total of eight plums.
Ruan Jiaojiao looked up at the larger and more luscious plums above, thinking there would be enough to share with her brothers when they came back, so she generously divided the eight plums in her hand, giving four to the little antagonist.
“Here you go, thanks,” she said, handing them to him with her chubby little hands.
The little antagonist didn’t refuse, took them, and together they came out of the backyard. The Ruanlin Family brought them water, letting them wash and eat by themselves.
Ruan Jiaojiao bit into one and shivered at the sourness, but found it irresistible.
The little antagonist seemed to have never eaten these before. Seeing her eat, he wanted to try too, but seeing her sour face wrinkled into a bundle, his hand paused before his mouth.
“Eat, eat, it’s really good,” Ruan Jiaojiao enthused.
She hadn’t even offered any to the female protagonist, look how generous she was, giving him four right away.
Of course, Ruan Jiaojiao would never admit that she was specifically trying to ingratiate herself with the little antagonist.
