The girl bumped into something, she turned back and saw a couple, the man’s arm propped against the elevator wall to prevent her from retreating. She wanted to push away Xia Ye Zhao, their proximity already far beyond comfortable, but the hospital’s elevator was always too crowded.
They finally reached the first floor. The people in front got out too slowly; every second was torture.
When everyone was finally gone, the man’s arm was still blocking her way. She was unable to move forward or retreat. She raised her eyes, glanced at Xia Ye Zhao, and asked, “Could you please move?”
Reluctantly, Xia Ye Zhao moved his arm.
Chang Danran quickly fled the elevator, the longer she stayed, the worse it would be.
But as soon as she was out, a man from behind grabbed her wrist. She flinched, “Mr. Xia, what are you doing?”
Being addressed as Mr. Xia stung Xia Ye Zhao. When did they become so distant?
Xia Ye Zhao suppressed the twinge in his heart, keeping his face impassive, he asked, “Could you tell me where I could get lunch? I am not familiar with the place.”
Chang Danran looked out at the stormy weather, took a deep breath, and said, “You could get food from the hospital cafeteria if you don’t mind the simplicity. If you want a better meal, there are eateries outside but they don’t taste great either.”
“Could you take me to the cafeteria?”
Chang Danran pulled back her hand: “Follow me.”
The hospital cafeteria was bustling with people in line.
There were three lunch options. One for 10 yuan, another for 15 yuan, and the last for 20 yuan, which was quite reasonable.
Nodding to the lunch lady, Xia Ye Zhao purchased three meals for 20 yuan each, one of which he instructed, “Don’t include fish and coriander in this one, remove the coriander please.”
Chang Danran instinctively asked, “Don’t you eat fish?”
But the moment the words left her lips, she regretted it. Xia Ye Zhao might eat fish, but it doesn’t mean his girlfriend would. Wondering why she would ask such a question, she quickly picked up her tray and walked away.
Xia Ye Zhao watched her go, sitting with her colleagues and chatting while eating. His feelings were heavy.
When the lunch lady finished packing his meals, he thought for a while and then left.
Watching his retreating figure, Chang Danran felt a change of mood. A moment ago she was laughing with her colleagues, now she sat quietly, not tasting her food.
Meanwhile, her colleagues were discussing something.
