Mia Ginger answered the phone.
She walked to the window holding her cellphone and softly said, "Hello."
"Mia?" Koa Jackson called out, as if he knew she was already there, and directly asked, "Have you packed everything?"
"No, I just got here."
"Alright," Koa paused slightly, his voice low and gentle, "I forgot to ask what colors and styles you like, so I prepared five dresses. You can wear them in the future too. Did Aunt Lee show them to you?"
"I saw them, thank you."
Koa paused for a moment, "You’re welcome."
After a brief silence, he added, "I finish work at five, and then I’ll head over to the Ginger Family."
"Have you been practicing dancing these days?" Koa asked again.
"Yes." Mia didn’t quite know what to say, answering each question asked.
Soon, Koa hung up the phone.
Mia felt a sense of loss.
This feeling lingered all the way home and still hadn’t faded.
Charlotte Chester asked Zuri Ginger for help with makeup.
Zuri dared not slack off with the obvious matters, helping Mia with her hair and a light makeup.
Pure beauty emerges from the water, naturally unadorned.
Looking at Mia’s fair and beautiful face in the mirror, Zuri felt a twinge of unspeakable jealousy, and after a while, regained her composure. She glanced at the bright red dress Mia was wearing, unable to restrain a sneer in her heart.
Mia didn’t have time to make a dress, so she and Charlotte accompanied her to the mall to choose two dresses.
One was white, graceful and elegant, the other red, passionate and charming.
Charlotte preferred festive and bright colors, feeling that the white better suited Mia’s temperament, yet she barely smiled and complimented the red for its vivid brilliance.
She herself was wearing a green floral dress, looking quite refreshing in the summer.
Perhaps wanting to outshine her, Mia ultimately decided to wear the red one.
Her skin was fair, and the bright red dress accentuated her jade-like complexion, as if she could be pinched to produce water. Unfortunately—
Her foster mother had only just died a few days ago!
So eager to stand out, she seemed cold-blooded.
Zuri glanced at her without any expression and, uninterested in pretending sisterly harmony, coldly said, "Are you done? If nothing else, I’ll go down to be with friends."
Mia looked at her and said to Sage, who was nearby, "Go down and get me a glass of juice."
"Alright, Second Miss."
Sage had just helped her with the necklace and was about to go down when Zuri suddenly said, "Forget it, I’ll go get it. Sage, check her makeup and outfit again, so Dad doesn’t say I’m careless."
Sage certainly didn’t dare object, standing there and looking at Mia.
"Anyone can get it," Mia turned to Zuri, "Much appreciated!"
Zuri snorted and went downstairs.
She came up with two glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Mia picked up a glass near her, took a sip, and happened to meet Zuri’s gaze before she could retract it.
She placed the orange juice back on the table.
Zuri was stunned for a moment, picked up her own glass, and casually took a sip.
Looking at Zuri’s face through the mirror, Mia thought for a moment, then suddenly spoke to herself, "Is the red dress too flashy? Should I wear the white one instead, sister could you fetch it for me?"
Zuri was taken aback, frustrated, "I think you want to ruin the makeup?"
"My mom just passed away not long ago, wearing something so bright... might be mocked," Mia raised her chin to look at Zuri, "Don’t you think?"
